PGPD Seeking Information On Dressed Up Camp Springs Bank Robber




The Prince George’s County Police Department is working to identify the suspect shown in the above surveillance photograph. On June 28, 2012, at approximately 9:22 A.M., the above shown individual committed a bank robbery at the BB&T Bank located at 6410 Allentown Road, Camp Springs, Maryland.

UPDATE-Organized Theft Ring Suspect Turns Himself In

The Prince George's County Police Department's Special Enforcement Division announced today that organized theft ring suspect Donnell Angelo Norman turned himself in to the Prince George's County Police Department this morning. Norman has been remanded to the Department of Corrections.


The Prince George's County Police Department has obtained a warrant for 32-year-old Donnell Angelo Norman of the unit block of Keepsake Place, Waldorf, Maryland for his involvement in an organized theft ring in which thousands of dollars worth of clothing, jewelry and assorted merchandise were recovered.

On June 18, 2012, a loss prevention officer at the Nordstrom warehouse, located in the 800 block of Commerce Place in Bowie, observed Norman opening boxes and concealing assorted merchandise.   He then left the warehouse and placed the merchandise in his vehicle.  Norman then returned back to the warehouse and continued working.

Sgt. Aubrey Thompson of the Special Enforcement Division said Norman “would sell it (the merchandise) from his house like it was a Nordstrom Counter.”

On June 19, Norman was arrested for stolen merchandise recovered on his person. While Norman was incarcerated, investigators obtained a court-ordered search warrant on his vehicle, cell phone and his home.  Prior to completing the search warrant, Norman was released on his own personal recognizance.  The Special Enforcement Division was able to recover approximately $2,000 of stolen merchandise from Norman’s vehicle and $38,000 in assorted jewelry and clothing from his residence.

The investigation is ongoing.




PGPD Responds to Indictments of Officers

The Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office charged two Prince George’s County police officers today with serious offenses that include kidnapping, false imprisonment, second degree assault and misconduct. Prince George's County Assistant Police Chief Kevin Davis said today, "The expectation is that police officers conduct themselves in an ethical and professional manner whether they’re on duty or off duty." Within 24 hours of the alleged Memorial Day weekend incident, the Prince George's County Police Department suspended the officers’ police powers pending the outcome of the investigation. Both officers are assigned to District II. Officer Michael Rowe is a five-year veteran.  Officer Christopher Perry has been with the department for four years. A suspension hearing is scheduled for Monday during which the officers’ pay status will be determined.

Prince George’s County Police Conducts Summer Car Seat Safety Check-up


The Prince George’s County Police Department, in partnership with the Prince George’s Community Federal Credit Union, will conduct a car seat check-up on Friday, June 29, 2012, starting at 11 a. m., at the Woodyard Crossing Shopping Center-Arby's Parking Lot, 8923 Woodyard Road, Clinton, MD.

The car seat check-up is free and open to the public. Certified car seat technicians will be on hand to check for recalls, ensure that child passenger car seats and boosters are installed correctly, and that the harness and vehicle installation are correct for the child.

This service involves drivers, parents and caretakers in the check-up. The Prince George’s Community Federal Credit Union will replace the first five (5) car seats that have been recalled or are unsafe. All car seats must be installed upon arrival at the car seat check-up site.

PGPD Remembers Fallen Hero-Sergeant Richard S. Findley

Let us pause to remember our Fallen Hero, Sergeant Richard S. Findley, lost this day in 2008 while attempting to apprehend theft suspects in Charlie Sector.

Sgt. Findley was born on June 5, 1969. He was raised in Beltsville, Maryland, and graduated from High Point High School in 1987. Sgt. Findley joined the Prince George's County Police Department on July 27, 1998 as a member of Session 92. Upon completion of his Academy training in February, 1999, Sgt. Findley was assigned to the Beltsville District Station. He initially served as a patrol officer and later became a member of the Special Assignment Team.

On the morning of June 27, 2008, Sgt. Findley was conducting surveillance on an unoccupied vehicle that was displaying stolen registration plates in the parking lot of the Laurel Pines Apartment Complex in the 14800 Block of Bowie Rd. Laurel, Maryland. At approximately 1145 hours, the vehicle became occupied by two subjects. Sgt. Findley approached the vehicle to attempt the apprehension. The vehicle accelerated and intentionally struck the Sergeant as he exited his police vehicle. Sgt. Findley was dragged by the suspect vehicle and sustained severe injuries. He was rushed to Laurel Regional Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.

Sgt. Findley served the Prince George's County Police Department for ten years and was the 25th member of this Agency to make the Ultimate Sacrifice. He was the 46th law enforcement officer to give his life in service to this Profession within Prince George's County, Maryland.

At the time of his death, Sergeant Richard S. Findley was 39 years old and survived by his wife and two daughters.

Police Seek Assistance in Locating Critical Missing Teenager (Shatema Erica Williams)


The Prince George’s County Police Department’s District IV Investigative Section is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a critical missing person identified as 17-year-old Shatema Erica Williams. She was last seen on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at 5:00 p.m., leaving her residence located in the 8100 block of Murry Hill Drive in Fort Washington.  Williams was last spoken to by her caseworker at approximately 9:00 p.m.  The caseworker described Williams as having a mental capacity of a 12-year-old and is concerned about her well-being.  She has not been seen or heard from since. 
Williams is a black female with a dark complexion, 5’2”, and approximately 165 pounds.  She has black hair in short black ponytails and brown eyes.  Williams was last seen wearing a light-blue shirt, light-blue Capri pants, blue flip-flops, and carrying a pink purse.

Medical Examiner Rules 1985 Shooting Victim’s Death a Homicide

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit has recently learned the 2012 death of a woman who was shot more than 30 years ago has now been ruled a homicide.

On November 1, 1985, at approximately 3:45 a.m., Prince George’s County Police were dispatched to 11721 South Laurel Drive, #412A, Laurel, Maryland for a reported shooting. The victim, Pamela Prowant, was found on the bedroom floor of her apartment suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Ms. Prowant was transported to Prince George’s Hospital Center for treatment. Ms. Prowant suffered paralysis and was confined to a wheelchair for the remainder of her life.

On January 29, 2012, Ms. Prowant died at a local hospital. On April 3, 2012, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled Ms. Prowant’s death a homicide resulting from the gunshot wound she received in 1985.

After consultation with the State’s Attorney’s Office, it was determined that in 1985 the law required that a victim die within one year and one day for the suspect to be charged with murder. Based on this information, this case is no longer prosecutable.

PGPD Remembers Fallen Hero-Officer James B. Swart

Let us pause to remember our Fallen Hero, Officer James B. Swart, lost this day in 1978 while coming to the aid of a wounded colleague in Adam Sector.

Ofc. Swart was born on December 27, 1952, in Prince George's County, Maryland. He was raised in Riverdale and graduated from Parkdale High School. Ofc. Swart joined the Prince George's County Police Department as a cadet on July 23, 1972. He then entered the Police Academy on October 28, 1973, following in the footsteps of his father, a retired detective sergeant with the Metropolitan Police Department. Ofc. Swart graduated from the Academy on March 4, 1974 and was assigned to the Hyattsville Station.

At approximately 2:40 a.m.,on the morning of June 26, 1978, Ofc. Swart was at the Hyattsville Station at 5012 Rhode Island Avenue assisting with the processing of two theft suspects when one of the males fatally shot Ofc. Albert M. Claggett, IV. Hearing the gunfire from another part of the station, Ofc. Swart rushed to assist and was shot in the chest by Ofc. Claggett's assailant. Ofc. Swart was rushed to Prince George's Hospital Center where he was pronounced deceased at 3:16 a.m.,moments after his arrival.

Ofc. Swart served the Prince George's County Police Department for five years and was the ninth member of this Agency to make the Ultimate Sacrifice. He was the 16th law enforcement officer to give his life in service to this Profession within Prince George's County, Maryland.

At the time of his death, Officer James B. Swart was 25 years old and survived by his parents.

Let us pause to remember our Fallen Hero, Officer Albert M. Claggett, IV, lost this day in 1978 while processing a prisoner in Adam Sector.

Ofc. Claggett was born on March 1, 1952, in Prince George's County, Maryland. He was raised in New Carrollton and graduated from Parkdale High School. Ofc. Claggett joined the Prince George's County Police Department as a cadet on June 19, 1972. He entered the Police Academy shortly thereafter, following in the footsteps of his father, retired Prince George's County Police Lieutenant Albert M. Claggett, III. Upon completion of his Academy training on December 3, 1972, the junior Claggett was assigned to the Seat Pleasant Station. He was subsequently transferred to the Hyattsville Station in July of 1975.

At approximately 0130 hours on the morning of June 26, 1978, Ofc. Claggett and Ofc. James B. Swart initiated a traffic stop of a vehicle on Annapolis Rd. at Kenilworth Ave. Bladensburg, Maryland. The vehicle matched the suspect description in the theft of laundry room coin boxes from the Eastpines Apartment Complex. The two occupants of the vehicle were arrested and transported to the Hyattsville Station at 5012 Rhode Island Avenue. At 0240 hours, as Ofc. Claggett was processing one of the offenders, he suddenly ripped the officer's service weapon from its holster and opened fire, striking Ofc. Claggett in the chest. Ofc. Claggett was rushed to Prince George's Hospital Center where he succumbed to his injuries during surgery at 0412 hours.


Ofc. Claggett served the Prince George's County Police Department for six years and was the tenth member of this Agency to make the Ultimate Sacrifice. He was the 17th law enforcement officer to give his life in service to this Profession within Prince George's County, Maryland.



At the time of his death, Officer Albert M. Claggett, IV was 26 years old and survived by his wife and two sons.

PGPD Identifies Organized Theft Ring



The Prince George’s County Police Department has identified an organized theft ring where $40,000 worth of stolen merchandise from a high-end retailer was recovered. Among some of the stolen items that will be on display include jewelry, clothing, handbags and make-up. Sgt. Aubrey Thompson of the Special Enforcement Division (SED) will be available for interviews.

The Prince George’s County Police Department is working to identify the suspect shown in the above surveillance photographs. On June 25, 2012, at approximately 1:05 a.m., the suspect committed an armed robbery at the 7-Eleven located at 3570 Crain Hwy, Bowie, Maryland.
