Detectives Arrest Man for Manslaughter

Prince George’s County Homicide Unit detectives arrested and charged 22-year-old Fransico Alvarado Revelo of the 10100 block of Old Fort Road in Fort Washington with the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Gabriela Melendez. The suspect and victim were in a relationship.

 

On May 28, 2021, at approximately 8:10 pm, patrol officers responded to the 10100 block of Old Fort Road for a shooting. The victim was located inside a home suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

 

The preliminary investigation revealed Alvarado Revelo was handling his firearm in the home when it discharged. The round struck Melendez subsequently killing her. Preliminarily, detectives believe the shooting was accidental. Alvarado Revelo is charged with manslaughter and reckless endangerment. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections. A commissioner ordered him held on a no-bond status.

Detectives Make Arrest in Landover Fatal Stabbing

Detectives with our Homicide Unit arrested and charged a suspect in connection with a fatal stabbing that occurred last week in Landover. The suspect is 33-year-old Anthony Gantt Jr. of the 2100 block of Addison Road South in District Heights. He is charged with the murder of 36-year-old Michael Lee Braxton of Landover.  

On May 26, 2021, at approximately 11:20 am, PGPD officers responded to an area hospital for a walk-in stabbing victim who was later identified as Braxton. The subsequent investigation established Braxton had been stabbed in the 7000 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Highway. Braxton died several hours later at the hospital. 

The preliminary investigation revealed Gantt and Braxton were known to each other. The fatal stabbing stemmed from a dispute. Gantt is charged with first and second degree murder and other related charges. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections. A commissioner ordered him held on a no-bond status.

Driver Dies of Injuries Following Collision in April

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred late last month in Laurel. The driver and only occupant, 64-year-old Stephen MacDonald of Laurel, has died of his injuries.

On April 29, 2021, at approximately 12:00 pm, officers responded to the intersection of Brock Bridge Road near Laurel Bowie Road for a single-vehicle crash. The preliminary investigation revealed MacDonald was traveling southbound on Brock Bridge Road, when for reasons that remain under investigation, he crossed the center line and ultimately struck a tree. MacDonald was transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries. He died on May 9, 2021.

PGPD Mourns Death of Off-Duty Officer


Corporal Gregory Fortson

The Prince George’s County Police Department is mourning the death of Corporal Gregory Fortson. Corporal Fortson passed away earlier this week following a medical emergency. He was off-duty at the time.

Corporal Fortson was a 13-year veteran of the agency and currently assigned to the Bureau of Patrol, District IV Oxon Hill station and was a cherished member of Squad 15.  

 

Prior to joining the PGPD, Corporal Fortson served in the US Army for 27 years and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Corporal Fortson is remembered for his love of sports and playing the lottery. He was especially fond of basketball and always rooted for teams from Georgia. In his spare time, he enjoyed being with his family.

 

Corporal Fortson is survived by his wife and two sons. We offer our deepest condolences to Corporal Fortson’s family and friends. He will be missed.


PGPD Investigating Fatal Stabbing in Landover

Homicide Unit detectives working to identify and arrest the suspect(s) who fatally stabbed 36-year-old Michael Lee Braxton of Landover.

Two Suspects in Custody for February 2020 Murder

The Homicide Unit identified and charged two suspects in connection with a murder in February of 2020. The victim in the case was 44-year-old Brian Keith Woods of Silver Spring. The two suspects are 43-year-old Gary Phillips of the 100 block of Raydale Road in the Chillum area and 26-year-old Andre Steen of the 6800 block of Red Top Road in the Takoma Park area.


On February 20, 2020, at approximately 3:00 pm, patrol officers were called to the 1000 block of Fairview Avenue in the Takoma Park area for the report of a crash. They discovered Woods outside of a car suffering from a gunshot wound. Woods had been driving the car and had just collided with a second, parked vehicle at the scene. He died a short time later.

 

The investigation revealed Woods was not shot at that location but inside of an apartment building in the 6800 block of Red Top Road. Following being shot, he fled that area and ultimately crashed on Fairview Avenue.

 

Through various investigative techniques, Phillips and Steen were developed as suspects. The suspects and victim were known to each other. The shooting occurred during a drug-related argument.

 

The suspects are both charged with second degree murder and related charges. They are in the custody of the Department of Corrections. A commissioner ordered them held on a no-bond status.

Detectives Arrest Suspect in December 2020 Fatal Shooting

 


Detectives with our Homicide Unit arrested 37-year-old Everton Lewis of the 3300 block of Teagarden Circle in Silver Spring for a murder in December of 2020He is charged with fatally shooting 34-year-old Anthoneil Hunter of Temple Hills. 

On December 26, 2020, at approximately 11:00 pm, patrol officers responded to the 6800 block of Red Top Road in the Takoma Park area for a shooting. Officers located the victim inside of an apartment suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.  

The preliminary investigation revealed Lewis and the victim got into an argument which escalated into a shooting. They were known to each other.  

 

Lewis is charged with first and second degree murder and additional charges. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections. A commissioner ordered him held on a no-bond status.

PGPD Seeks Community’s Assistance in Locating Murder Suspect

 



The Prince George’s County Police Department is continuing its active search for 29-year-old Dayvon Gordon of the 700 block of Barnaby Street in Southeast, Washington D.C. He’s wanted in connection with the October 2020 murder of 22-year-old Andre Lamont Cox Jr., of no fixed address.


On October 27, 2020, officers responded to the 3200 block of 75th Avenue in Landover for a shooting. The victim was located outside suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He died a short time later.


A second suspect, 18-year-old Tahj Vandy, of the 6400 block of Landing Way in Landover, is already in custody.


The suspects and victim were known to each other. Detectives believe the suspects shot the victim over a dispute. Both Gordon and Vandy are charged with first and second degree murder.

Bank Robbery Suspect


Robbery detectives are working to identify and arrest this bank robbery suspect who targeted two banks just minutes apart. The preliminary investigation revealed that on May 21, 2021, the suspect entered a bank in the 4300 block of Collington Road in Bowie and made demands for money. He left without any cash. Minutes later, the same suspect entered a second bank on Collington Road and again demanded money. He fled with cash in this case. A CA$H reward is being offered. Attempt Carjacking Suspect


Next up, is this suspect who attempted a carjacking on May 19, 2021. The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect approached the victim in the parking lot of a business in the 4500 block of Suitland Road. Assault Suspect


Our detectives are also working to locate this individual wanted in connection with an assault. The preliminary investigation revealed that on May 14th, 2021, the suspect assaulted a victim with a knife at a church in the 5300 block of Sheriff Road in Landover. He is identified as 37-year-old Antowaun Lynch of the 1000 block of Balsamtree Drive in Fairmount Heights. The victim suffered minor injuries. Gas Station Robbery


Our detectives are asking for your assistance in identifying this suspect in connection with a robbery investigation. The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect entered a gas station in the 16000 block of McKendree Road in Brandywine on May 23, 2021. The suspect displayed a handgun and stole cash before fleeing the scene. Fatal Motorcycle Collision in the City of Hyattsville Under Investigation

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal motorcycle collision that occurred Saturday morning in the City of Hyattsville. The deceased rider is 27-year-old Yimy Zelaya Mejia of Silver Spring.

On May 22, 2021, at approximately 1:30 am, officers with the Hyattsville City Police Department responded to the 5100 block of Baltimore Avenue for a motorcycle crash. The preliminary investigation revealed Zelaya Mejia was traveling northbound on Baltimore Avenue passing Farragut Street, when for reasons that remain under investigation, he lost control of his motorcycle. He was ultimately thrown from his motorcycle. Zelaya Mejia was pronounced dead on the scene. His motorcycle did collide with several parked vehicles. Two of the vehicles were unoccupied. A third had one occupant who was transported with what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

PGPD Investigating Double Fatal Crash in New Carrollton

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating the circumstances of a double fatal crash this weekend in New Carrollton. The deceased driver is 18-year-old Kevin Escamilla Escalante of Capitol Heights. A passenger in his car also died. She is identified as 16-year-old Kaylin Ramirez of the Woodlawn area.

On May 23, 2021, at approximately 1:45 am, patrol officers responded to the 7500 block of Annapolis Road for a single-car collision. The two victims were pronounced dead on the scene. A third occupant suffered what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed the car was heading westbound on Annapolis Road. After passing through the intersection of Veterans Parkway, for reasons that are under investigation, the driver appears to have lost control of his car and ultimately struck a tree.

Detectives Arrest Suspect for Domestic-Related Fatal Shooting in Upper Marlboro

The Homicide Unit arrested and charged a suspect in connection with a domestic-related fatal shooting in Upper Marlboro Thursday afternoon. The suspect is 22-year-old Justin Waters of the 400 block of Pritchard Lane in Upper Marlboro. He is charged with fatally shooting his father, 57-year-old Stuart Waters, of Upper Marlboro.

On May 20, 2021, at approximately 2:00 pm, officers were called to the 400 block of Pritchard Lane for the report of a shooting. The victim was located inside of a house suffering from gunshots wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Justin called 911 and admitted to shooting his father during an argument and fight. He is charged with first and second degree murder and related charges.

PGPD Investigating Death of Child Shot in Bowie Apartment

Detectives are actively working to determine the circumstances of the fatal shooting of a three-year-old boy inside of a Bowie apartment on Monday. The child died of his injuries late Tuesday night.

On May 17, 2021, at approximately 5:45 pm, City of Bowie police officers responded to an apartment in the 16400 block of Governors Bridge Road. Once they arrived, they located the child suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment with critical injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed the child and a parent were visiting the apartment. There were additional adults there at the time. Shortly after their arrival, the child was shot. Detectives are looking into whether this was an accidental shooting.

PGPD Investiga Muerte de Menor a Causa de Disparo dentro de Apartamento en Bowie

Nuestros detectives buscan determinar las circunstancias de un mortal incidente con arma de fuego dentro de un apartamento en Bowie que cobró la vida de un infante de tres años de edad el pasado lunes. El menor murió de sus heridas tarde en la noche del martes.

Detectives to Canvass for Information in Shooting of Child

This evening, detectives will return to a neighborhood in the unincorporated section of Capitol Heights to gather information in a shooting on Sunday night. The victim is a six-year-old child. The child remains hospitalized with critical injuries. A cash reward is being offered in connection with this case.

 

On May 16, 2021, at approximately 11:05 pm, officers responded to the 1900 block of Brooks Drive for a shooting. The victim was located inside of an apartment suffering from a gunshot wound. The child was rushed to a hospital for treatment.

 

The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect(s) shot into the apartment from outside. Detectives are actively working to identify the suspect(s) and determine a motive.
