PGPD District IV COPS Help Keep Kids Reading

Prince George's County Maryland... Prince George's County Police Department's District IV COPS have teamed up with Glassmanor Elementary School in a pilot program to help keep students reading.  Officers stepped up to Glassmanor Elementary after learning that nearly 30 students in 1st through 3rd grades would be losing their Reading Recovery specialists under county budget cuts.  The Reading Recovery program gives one-on-one instruction with students to help improve their reading and phonics skills.  Students meet twice a week at the police station where they are individually assigned a volunteer tutor.  The program began June 27th and will continue until August 11th.
