PGPD Reminder of New Maryland Texting While Driving Law

On Saturday, October 1, 2011, Maryland's new texting while driving law will goes into effect.  As a reminder to motorists and residents within Prince George's County and throughout the state of Maryland, highlights of the new law are as follows:

• Drivers may no longer send or read texts while operating a motor vehicle
• The law applies to drivers at all times -- whether the vehicle is in motion or stopped at a red light
• Texting and driving is moving from a secondary offense to a primary offense
• As a primary offense, texting while driving now means a $70 fine and one point on a driver's license.  If it is found that texting contributed to the cause of an accident, the fine jumps to $110 and three points

Law enforcement agencies across the region realize that distracted driving has become a major roadway saftey issue.  The new law is aimed at reducing the number of distracted while driving crashes that result in injuries and fatalities. 

Memorial Service & Candle Light Vigil for Prince George's County Fallen Heroes

The Glassmanor Citizens Association will be hosting a Memorial Service & Candle Light Vigil for the Prince George’s County Police, Sheriff and Fire Departments Fallen Heroes.

This Service will take place on Friday, September 30, 2011, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The location is in the area park on Audrey Lane & Maury Avenue, Oxon Hill, Maryland. There is a rain date set for Thursday, October 20, 2011. The location will be moved to the Glassmanor Community Recreation Center located at 1101 Marcy Avenue, Oxon Hill, Maryland.

Summer Crime Initiative Yields Significant Crime Reductions

Prince George’s County, Maryland…The Prince George’s County Police Department has announced the results of the Summer Crime Initiative that was conducted from May 22 through September 1, 2011 in the five focus areas of Langley Park, Riverdale, Suitland, Hillcrest Heights, and Glassmanor.

The Summer Crime Initiative was developed as a holistic approach to fighting crime. In addition to reducing and controlling crime, the Summer Crime Initiative strengthened community partnerships and helped to improve the quality of life of residents in the five focus areas.

During the initiative, the Department and our law enforcement partners allocated additional police resources to the five focus areas in order to impact crime. County and State agencies also allocated resources to these areas to ensure that residents were receiving needed government services.

As a result of this initiative, crime has dropped significantly, both in the five focus areas and County-wide. The Summer Crime Initiative yielded violent crime reductions of 22.2% in Langley Park, 22.5% in Riverdale, 9.7% in Suitland, 23.2% in Hillcrest Heights, and 12% in Glassmanor. Year-to-date, overall crime in Prince George’s County is down 9%, violent crime is down 12.1%, and property crime is down 8.4%.

“We will not abandon our crime fighting and community raising efforts. We will continue to build on the relationships that have been established. And we will continue to partner with the community and be responsive to their needs as we develop strong, viable, crime resistant neighborhoods.” said Police Chief Mark A. Magaw.

PGPD to Resume 2nd Annual “IRON TEAM” Endurance Competition

Prince George's County, Maryland …The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Special Operations Division will resume hosting their 2^nd annual “IRON TEAM” Endurance Competition at Supplee Park in Laurel, Maryland.  The events were postponed due to inclement weather caused by Hurricane Irene.

The Iron Team Endurance Competition is an invitation to all law enforcement agencies, military and fire personnel to compete mentally and physically in various exercises that will test their endurance, strength, and cardiovascular abilities.  Each 4-person team will endure a 2.5 mile trail run, 25-yard equipment carry, 25-yard pole carry, 35-yard water crossing, a 50-yard officer rescue and other various grueling events.

Police Seek Assistance in Locating Critical Missing Female - Barbara Ann Julius

Prince George’s County, Maryland…The Prince George’s County Police Department’s District II Investigative Section is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a critical missing person identified as 73-year-old Barbara Ann Julius.  She was last seen on Sunday, September 25, 2011 at approximately 8:30 p.m. in the 9600 block of Woodberry Street in Lanham.

 Julius left her residence after having an altercation with a family member. 

Julius is a black female, approximately 5’7” tall and weighs about 165 pounds with brown and gray hair.  She was last seen wearing a green and beige hat, green shirt and blue jeans.  Julius was driving a 2000, gold Toyota Corolla with a Maryland tag of MNB 173.  She has a history of depression and may be suicidal.  Julius is not currently under a doctor’s care.

Police Investigate the Sexual Assault of 10 year-old

     Prince George’s County Maryland… The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit is investigating the sexual assault of a 10 year-old girl that occurred early this morning in Oxon Hill, Maryland.


     On September 26, 2011, at approximately 6:44 a.m., patrol officers responded to the 5400 block of Livingston Terrace in reference to a sexual assault. On scene investigation revealed that the unknown suspect entered through a bedroom window, observed the victim laying in her bed, and sexually assault her. The suspect then fled the scene.

     The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 30 years of age, having a dark complexion and a beard. He was last seen wearing a black scarf covering his head and eyes, a black T-shirt, and black work boots.

     Police would like to remind citizens to report any suspicious activity they may observe. If you are not in close proximity to windows and doors, please keep them locked.

Police Make Arrest in Fatal Hit & Run in Hyattsville

Prince George’s County Maryland… The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit has arrested 18 year-old Juan Josua Chavez in connection with the fatal hit and run collision of 34 year-old Manuel Mendoza that occurred early Saturday morning in Hyattsville, Maryland.

On September 24, 2011, at approximately 3:40 a.m., patrol officers responded to the 2000 block of University Boulevard for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. When the officers arrived, they found Mendoza, of the 2400 block of Lewisdale Drive in Hyattsville, Maryland, lying on the sidewalk suffering from trauma consistent with being struck by a motor vehicle. Mendoza was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigation revealed that there was an altercation earlier between a group of males who were exiting the Galaxy night club located in the same block. The group dispersed, and several males entered a Ford Explorer and drove onto the 2000 block of University Boulevard. The driver drove against traffic towards a group of males walking on the sidewalk and intentionally struck Mendoza. The Ford Explorer then fled the scene.

Detectives developed Chavez, of the 1700 block of Mt. Pisgah Lane, Silver Spring, Maryland, as a suspect. Chavez was later located along with the vehicle. He was placed under arrest, and subsequently charged with second degree murder and manslaughter.
Chavez has been remanded to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections where he is being held on a $2,000,000 bond.

Police Arrest Alleged Vince Young Impersonator

Prince George’s County, Maryland…The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Special Enforcement Division, along with investigators from the Metropolitan Police Department, has arrested the man alleged to have been impersonating Philadelphia Eagles back-up quarterback Vince Young throughout the metropolitan area.

Stephan Antwain Pittman, 33, of the 2800 block of Lindesfarn Terrace, Fort Washington, Maryland, was taken into custody pursuant to a warrant obtained by the Metropolitan Police Department.  Pittman was arrested at a shopping center in the 4200 block of 28^th Avenue in Temple Hills, Maryland without incident.

The warrant charges Pittman with First Degree Fraud.  Pittman is currently being held in Prince George’s County pending extradition to Washington, D.C.

Police Investigate Homicide in Capitol Heights

Prince George’s County Maryland… The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating the homicide of 24 year-old Antwan Lamar Brooks which occurred earlier this morning in Capitol Heights, Maryland.

At approximately 4:15 a.m., patrol officers responded to the 1200 block of Benning Road for a report of a shooting. Brooks, of the 9200 block of Rolling View Drive in Lanham, Maryland, was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Detectives are working to identify the suspect(s) and establish a motive in this case.

PGPD Arrests Suspect Responsible for Three Burglaries in College Park

Aljarreau Edward Bolden

Prince George’s County, Maryland…The Prince George’s County Police Department’s District I Investigative Section has arrested Aljarreau Edward Bolden, 26, of the 6600 block of 24th Avenue in Hyattsville, Maryland, in connection with three
homes that were burglarized in College Park.

Bolden turned himself in on September 17, 2011, without incident and is being charged with three counts of 1st degree burglary, one count of 3rd degree burglary, three counts of 4th degree burglary, and theft under $10,000. He is currently remanded to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections and is being held on a no-bond status.

Investigators learned that Bolden burglarized a home on August 15 in the 4900 block of Niagara Road and two homes on September 7 in the 9200 block of Limestone Place and the 9400 block of 52nd Avenue. He then pawned some of the property to a jewelry store in Arundel Mills Mall. A photo of the suspect is attached.

Police Seek Assistance in Locating Critical Missing Male (James Clinton Jacobs)

Prince George’s County, Maryland…The Prince George’s County Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a critical missing person identified as 87 year-old James Clinton Jacobs. He was last seen leaving his residence in the 2200 block of Wyngate Road in Suitland, Maryland at 1:45 p.m. this afternoon and has not been seen or heard from since.

James Jacobs is a black male with a medium complexion, around 5’6” tall and weighing approximately 180 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, blue jeans, white tennis shoes, and a “Kangol” style cap. He also wears prescription glasses and walks with a black plastic cane. Jacobs suffers from Alzheimer’s and Diabetes, and is in need of his medication.

PGPD offers sexual assault prevention tips

The Prince George's County Police Department wants to remind citizens to always be alert, and aware, and has a few sexual assault prevention tips.

- Don't let strangers inside your home.  If you have not called a repairman, don't let one inside.

- Be prepared to enter your home prior to getting to the door.  Have your key ready in your hand.

- Do not enter your home if a window or door as been forced or broken while you were gone.

- Keep car doors locked at all times while driving and when parked.

- Park your car in highly visible areas that will be well lighted if you return when it is dark.

- Avoid walking alone.  Walk in areas where other people are near.

- Stay in well lighted areas, and don't take shortcuts such as alleys and wooded areas.

- Be alert and aware.  If someone bothers you, don't be embarrassed to attract attention to yourself.  Scream and run.

Suspects Sought in Navy Federal Credit Union Robbery

           Prince George’s County, Maryland…The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Robbery Unit is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying three suspects wanted in connection with the robbery of a Navy Federal Credit Union in Clinton, Maryland.

On September 20, 2011, at approximately 8:45 a.m., three suspects forced their way into a Navy Federal Credit Union located in the 8800 block of Branch Avenue. Once inside, suspect #1 approached the victim and demanded money from the vault.  The victim complied and the suspects fled the scene.  Over $100,000.00 has been recovered.

Suspect #1 is described as a black male, 26-27 years of age, 6’2”, 200 lbs, dark complexion, wearing blue jeans, black and green shoes, black mask and gloves.

Suspect #2 is described as black male, 24-25 years of age, 5’4”, 180 lbs, black sweatshirt, dark colored pants, black shoes, black mask and gloves.  Suspect #3 is described as are described as black male, 6’0”, medium build, wearing a white long sleeved shirt, blue jeans, black and white shoes, ski mask and black gloves. 

Navy Federal Credit Union is offering an additional $5000 reward along with the $1000 Crime Solvers Reward.

PGPD Partners with the One Warm Coat Organization - Warming Communities One Coat at a Time

     Prince George’s County, Maryland… The Prince George’s County Police Department’s District V C.O.P.S. Unit is partnering with the One Warm Coat Organization to sponsor a Coat Drive beginning October 8, 2011, to December 15, 2011, at the District V (Clinton) Station.

     One Warm Coat is a national non-profit organization that supports and encourages coat drives. It helps individuals, groups, companies and organizations across the country collect coats and deliver them to local agencies that distribute the coats free to people in need. More than one million coats have been provided to those in need at no cost since its inception in 1992.

     “The coat drive for families in need is yet another example of how our officers with the Prince George’s County Police Department are taking a vested interest in our communities. Hopefully our community partners will come out to support this important initiative”, said Major Jason Bogue, Commander of District V.

Police Seek Identity of Suspects in Navy Federal Credit Union Bank Robbery in Clinton

The Prince George’s County Police Department's Robbery Unit is working to identify the suspects shown in the above surveillance photographs. On September 20, 2011, at approximately 8:43 a.m., three suspects robbed the Navy Federal Credit Union, located at 8825 Branch Ave in Clinton Maryland.

The suspects are described as the following:

#1: Black male, 26-27 yrs old, 6’2”, 200lbs, dark skin complexion, white long sleeve shirt, blue jeans, black/green shoes, black mask, gloves. 

#2: Black male, 24-25 yrs old, 5’4”, 180lbs, black sweatshirt, dark colored pants, black shoes, black mask, gloves, possible dreadlocks.

#3: Black male, 6’, medium build, white long sleeve shirt, blue jeans, black ski mask, black gloves, black/white shoes.

Police Investigate Fatal Accidental Shooting of Toddler

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating the accidental self-inflicted shooting of a 2-year-old boy, yesterday evening in Oxon Hill, Maryland.

On September 19, 2011, at approximately 7:51 p.m., patrol officers responded to the 6200 block of Oxon Hill Road for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, patrol officers discovered the toddler suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Preliminary investigation revealed the mother of the child was in a separate room from the toddler when she heard the sound of a gunshot. The mother went to the room where she found the toddler suffering from a gunshot wound.

Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident. The case will be sent to the State’s Attorney’s Office to be reviewed for any pending charges.

Individuals who own guns in their homes are reminded to unload, lock, and secure it in an undisclosed location from children. Ammunition should also be secured in a location separate from the gun.

PGPD Offers Gun Safety Prevention Tips

• Store firearms unloaded and locked.

• Use a firearm safe, locked box, trigger or chamber lock to store firearms. 

• Store and lock ammunition in a separate place. 

• Remove firearms from your home if you have a depressed or suicidal family member. 

• Ask family and friends to use these safe storage steps. 

• Before you send your child to someone's house, ask if firearms in the home are stored unloaded and locked. Ask if the ammunition is stored separately. Ask about shotguns and rifles too, not just handguns. 

• If you have doubts about the safety of someone else's home, invite the children to play at your home instead. 

• Present your concerns with respect. 

• Talk with your children about the risk of firearm injury in places they may visit or play. 

• Teach your child if she finds a firearm to leave it alone and let an adult know right away.

Police Seek Information in Fatal Hit-and-Run Collision in College Park

Prince George’s County, Maryland…The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit (CARU) is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred in College Park, Maryland.

On September 18, 2011, at approximately 3:25 a.m., patrol officers responded to University Boulevard at Baltimore Avenue for a call of a pedestrian struck. Upon arrival, patrol officers found a 30 year old male suffering from trauma consistent with a vehicle collision. He was pronounced deceased on scene.

Preliminary investigations revealed the victim was walking in the road way before the time of impact. The unknown vehicle, traveling westbound on University Boulevard, struck the victim and fled the scene without stopping and rendering assistance. The unknown vehicle is described as a Red Honda with damage to its left door mirror. Additional evidence recovered at the site of the collision has lead to investigators discovering the victim was also struck by a second vehicle which also did not stop at the scene.

CARU investigators are seeking information regarding both striking vehicles or information from anyone who may have witnessed or been in the area at the time of the collision.

Police Investigate Homicide in Fort Washington

Prince George’s County Maryland… The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating a homicide in Fort Washington, Maryland.

On September 16, 2011, at approximately 10:37 p.m., patrol officers responded to the 10900 block of Indian Head Highway for a welfare check. Upon their arrival, they discovered 45 year-old Graham Edmondson Hayes II, of the 7200 block of Purple Avens Avenue, and 47 year-old John Jay Bromwich, of the 10900 block of Indian Head Highway suffering from gunshot wounds. Hayes and Bromwich were both pronounced dead on the scene. Hayes was shot by Bromwich who then took his own life. Investigation has revealed that the two men worked together at the location of incident.

Detectives are working to establish a motive in this case. This investigation is ongoing.

Police Investigate Sexual Assaults

The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating two sexual assaults that occurred in Forestville, Maryland.

The first incident occurred on September 6, 2011, at approximately midnight in the 6200 block of Surrey Service Drive. The victim was approached from behind and inappropriately touched by a unknown male. After a short struggle, the victim was able to escape her attacker. The suspect in this incident is being described as a black male, approximately 25 to 30 years of age, dark complexion, close haircut, wearing a black t-shirt and dark denim jeans.

The second incident occurred on September 16, 2011, at approximately 10:00 p.m., in the area of Pennsylvania Avenue and Walters Lane. The victim was approached from behind and taken to a wooded area, where she was sexually assaulted. The suspect fled the area on foot in an unknown direction. Police are working to determine if the two attacks are connected.

Investigators are working to identify the suspect(s) in these cases.

Police are asking that citizens report any suspicious activity that witnesses may have observed in the area. Police are encouraging citizens to be mindful of their surroundings, always walk in well lit areas and in groups whenever possible.

Wanted in Commercial Armed Robbery in Temple Hills

The Prince George’s County Police Department Robbery Unit is working to identify the Suspect shown in the surveillance photographs. On September 18, 2011, at approximately 1:15 p.m., the Suspect committed an armed robbery at the Arthur Treacher’s restaurant located at 4500 block of St. Barnabas Road in Temple Hills, Maryland.

Prince George’s County’s Automated Speed Enforcement Program - Warning Period Coming to an End

Prince George’s County, Maryland…September 21, 2011, will mark the end of the 30-day warning period for Prince George’s County’s new automated speed enforcement program. It also marks the beginning of actual citations being issued when drivers are recorded traveling at least 12 miles per hour above the posted speed limit, Monday – Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., in designated school zones.

The Automated Speed Enforcement Program is intended to promote pedestrian safety, while deterring excessive speeding in Prince George’s County.

Police Seek Information in Fatal Collision in Accokeek

Prince George’s County, Maryland…The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit (CARU) is investigating the fatal collision that occurred early this morning in Accokeek, Maryland.

On September 16, 2011, at approximately 1:30 a.m., patrol officers responded to the 15900 block of Indian Head Highway for a report of a multiple vehicle crash. Upon arrival, patrol officers found Maurice Eric Proctor, 43, deceased after his vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Proctor, of the 15000 block of Overlea Court in Accokeek, was traveling in a Ford Crown Victoria southbound on Indian Head Highway approaching Livingston Road. The Crown Victoria then struck a Honda Civic, also travelling southbound, causing the Civic to veer off the roadway. After striking the Civic, the Crown Victoria crossed over the median, onto northbound Indian Head Highway, where it was struck by an oncoming tractor-trailer. Proctor was then trapped inside the Crown Victoria which caught on fire. Proctor was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the Civic was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

CARU investigators are seeking any information regarding a large, older model, sedan that may have been racing with Proctor just prior to the collision. Investigators are also looking for information from anyone who may have witnessed, or been in the area, at the time of the collision.

PGPD to Resume 2nd Annual “IRON TEAM” Endurance Competition

Prince George's County, Maryland …The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Special Operations Division will resume hosting their 2nd annual “IRON TEAM” Endurance Competition at Supplee Park in Laurel, Maryland. The events were postponed due to inclement weather caused by Hurricane Irene.

The Iron Team Endurance Competition is an invitation to all law enforcement agencies, military and fire personnel to compete mentally and physically in various exercises that will test their endurance, strength, and cardiovascular abilities. Each 4-person team will endure a 2.5 mile trail run, 25-yard equipment carry, 25-yard pole carry, 35-yard water crossing, a 50-yard officer rescue and other various grueling events.

PGPD to Conduct Car Seat Check-Ups

Prince George’s County, Maryland… The Prince George’s County Police Department and members of the Bunker Hill Fire Station and the Prince George’s Community Federal Credit Union (PGCFCU) will be conducting car seat check-ups this Friday. Certified car seat technicians will be on hand to check for recalls, ensure that child passenger car seats and boosters are installed correctly, and that the harness and vehicle installation are correct for the child. In a recent car seat check-up event, the Prince George’s County Police Department reported that 93% of car seats were improperly installed or unsafe for a child. The police department encourages those who utilize child passenger car seats to attend the event. There is no fee for the check-up and it is open to the public.

Police Investigate Homicide in Beltsville

Prince George’s County Maryland… The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating the homicide of 22 year-old Afamefuna Jamaine Onwuka which occurred this morning in Beltsville, Maryland.

On September 14, 2011, at approximately 12:30 a.m., patrol officers responded to the 4600 block of Garrett Avenue for report of a shooting. Onwuka, of the 4400 block of 75th Avenue, Landover, Maryland, was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound and transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Detectives are working to identify the suspect(s) and establish a motive in this case.

Prince George’s County Maryland… The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is investigating the homicide of 21 year-old Aaron Marquette Jones which occurred Monday in Landover, Maryland.    

On September 12, 2011, at approximately 9:00 p.m., patrol officers responded to the 8100 block of Manson Street for an unconscious male lying in the street.  Jones, of the 6200 block of Landover Road, Landover, Maryland, was found suffering from trauma and transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.  Detectives are working to identify the suspect(s) and establish a motive in this case.

Metropolitan Police Department to Assume Homicide Investigation from PGPD

Prince George’s County Maryland… The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit has turned over the homicide investigation of Antwain Elisha Henderson to the Metropolitan Police Department.

On August 31, 2011, at approximately 5:00 a.m., patrol officers and fire fighters responded to the 800 block of Balsamtree Place, Capitol Heights, Maryland, for a vehicle fire. Once the fire was extinguished, the burned body of Henderson, of the 5600 block of Coolidge Street, Capitol Heights, Maryland, was discovered inside the vehicle. Due to the ongoing investigation and collaboration with the Metropolitan Police Department, it has been determined that the homicide occurred in the District of Columbia.

PGPD Offers Pedestrian Safety Tips

• Be predictable. Stay off freeways and restricted zones. Use sidewalks where provided. Cross or enter streets where it is legal to do so.
• Where no sidewalks are provided, it is usually safer to walk facing road traffic.
• Make it easy for drivers to see you - dress in light colors and wear retro-reflective material. It might be wise to carry a flashlight in very dark areas.
• Be wary. Most drivers are nice people, but don't count on them paying attention. Watch out - make eye contact to be sure they see you!
• Alcohol and drugs can impair your ability to walk safely, just like they do a person's ability to drive.
• Use extra caution when crossing multiple-lane, higher speed streets.

Chief Mark A. Magaw Announces Senior Command Promotions

Prince George’s County, Maryland… Prince George’s County Chief of Police Mark A. Magaw and County Executive Rushern L. Baker, III announced senior command promotions in the police department. Today, Chief Magaw promoted one Assistant Chief of Police, four Lieutenant Colonels (Deputy Chiefs), eleven Majors, ten Captains, twelve Lieutenants, and seventeen Sergeants.

Lt. Colonel Kevin Davis, promoted to Assistant Chief of Police, most recently commanded the department’s Bureau of Patrol. He has served in Districts I, III, IV, and the Special Operations and Narcotics Enforcement Divisions. He grew up in College Park and graduated from DeMatha High School and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English. He is a 2004 graduate of the National FBI Academy.

Craig A. Howard, Dwayne A. Preston, Henry P. Stawinski, III, and Gevonia R. Whittington were promoted to Lieutenant Colonel (Deputy Chiefs) and will command the department’s four bureau’s to include the Bureau’s of Administration, Patrol, Support Services, and Strategic Management.

PGPD assists with Fort Foote Elementary School Dictionary Distribution

Prince George's County Police Department's District IV Commander, Major James A. Harper, was on hand September 7th, to help distribute dictionaries to Fort Foote Elementary School students.  Maj. Harper joined James Hudnall, Vice President, Riverbend Estates Neighborhood Association; Dr. M. Goldsmith, Principal, Fort Foote Elementary School; and Derrick L. Coley, Public Affairs Liaison for District 8 Councilman Obie Patterson; to hand out the dictionaries to the Ft. Foote 3rd graders.  The dictionaries were funded and distributed by Riverbend Estates Neighborhood Association.

PGPD searching for suspect near Southern Maryland Hospital

The Prince George's County Police Department is currently searching for a breaking and entering suspect in the area of Southern Maryland Hospital.  He is described as a black male, 23 years old,  6'1, 170 lbs,  short hair,  white t shirt, dark jeans, white socks, no shoes.

Prince George’s County Police Officers Participate in World Police and Fire Games

Prince George’s County, Maryland… Between August 26^th and September 5^th, members of the Prince George’s County Police Department competed in the 2011 World Police and Fire Games hosted by New York City.  Over 17,000 athletes registered from more than 60 countries to compete in this year’s games.

Major Christopher Cotillo, Commander of District II, competed in the Bench Press and Push/Pull events where he won Gold Medals for both events, breaking two World Records in the process.

Special Operations Division, Canine Section, participated in the Police Service Dogs category which consisted of Patrol, Narcotics Detection and Explosives Detection events.  Four teams of partners competed in the games; Corporal Nicholas Cicale with K9 partner Zoey, Corporal Jeffery Walden with K9 partner Max, Corporal Michael Amorino with K9 partners Rocco and Bo, and Police Officer First Class Scott Allen with K9 partner Rambo.  Corporal Cicale and his partner Zoey placed 3^rd, receiving the Bronze in Explosive Detection.
