Suspect Arrested in Sexual Assaults and Armed Robberies in Suitland

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit has arrested Philip James Fleming, 30, of the 2700 block of Lorring Drive in District Heights, Maryland, in connection with the sexual assault and armed robberies of two females in the 4700 block of Silver Hill Road in Suitland, Maryland, during the past weeks. In both incidents, the victims were accosted during the early morning hours while walking to the Suitland Metro Station.

Philip Fleming was arrested on Friday, October 7th, and remanded to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections. Fleming has been charged with 1st degree rape, armed robbery, 1st and 2nd degree, and is incarcerated on a no bond status.

During the course of the investigation, detectives identified Philip Fleming as a suspect in a September 15th citizen armed robbery near Silver Hill Road and Parkway Terrace Drive. During that incident, a female victim was groped and robbed at gunpoint while walking along Silver Hill Road at approximately 4:45 a.m.

On September 27th, a female victim walking along Silver Hill Road at approximately 5:30 a.m. was led across the street along at gunpoint and sexually assaulted behind an abandoned building. Both victims positively identified Philip Fleming from a photo array and a warrant was obtained for his arrest. Detectives are looking into the possibility of whether Fleming may have been involved in other assaults or robberies in the area.
