PGPD Remembers Fallen Hero (11-15-03) Sergeant Anthony M. Walker

Let us pause to remember our Fallen Hero, Sergeant Anthony M. Walker, lost this day in 2003 as a result of injuries sustained ten days earlier in a departmental vehicle accident in Frank Sector.

Sgt. Walker was born on June 23, 1962. He joined the Prince George’s County Police Department on July 9, 1984. Upon completion of his Academy training, Sgt. Walker was assigned to the District I Station. He was subsequently transferred to the Narcotics Enforcement Division. During his career, Sgt. Walker became active in the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 89. He served that organization in several positions and was ultimately elected President in November, 2001.

At approximately 10:51 p.m., on the evening of November 5, 2003, Sgt. Walker had just left a meeting that he had attended in his capacity as President of FOP, Lodge 89, when he lost control of his police vehicle on Brandywine Rd. in Brandywine, Maryland. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. Sgt. Walker sustained serious injuries in the single vehicle collision and was rushed to Washington Hospital Center. He courageously battled his injuries for the next ten days, undergoing numerous surgeries and forms of treatment. Then, in the early morning hours of November 15, 2003, Sgt. Walker succumbed to his injuries.

Sgt. Walker served the Prince George’s County Police Department for 19 years and was the 23rd member of this Agency to make the Ultimate Sacrifice. He was the 42nd law enforcement officer to give his life in service to this Profession within Prince George’s County, Maryland.

At the time of his death, Sergeant Anthony M. Walker was 41 years old and survived by his wife, son, and three daughters.
