PGPD Trains for Civil Disturbances

On April 24, 2012, the PGPD conducted Civil Disturbance Training. This entailed officers that are a part of the Civil Disturbance Unit to conduct constant, up to date training to ensure all involved are aware of the PGPD’s current practices and regulations as it relates to this aspect of policing.

The day began with a classroom style lecture where instructors discussed the PGPD philosophy when handling civil disturbance incidents. PGPD rules and regulations were thoroughly reviewed with the officers.

The second part of the day consisted of field exercises. These exercises included simulated scenarios. The scenarios were made to be as realistic as possible. The realism included the PGPD recruit class “acting” as a rowdy crowd. A helicopter and loud noises were also provided to add to the chaotic circumstances that may be encountered.

“We want our personnel to be ready for every aspect of handling a civil disturbance,” says The Commander of the Special Operations Division.
