Today, the PGPD held a news conference at headquarters to announce the “Gift Cards for Guns” Event. In an effort to further reduce gun violence in Prince George’s County, PGPD will accept firearms from citizens who want to voluntarily surrender them. The firearms need not be functional. In return, citizens will receive a gift card valued up to $100. The PGPD is working with Partnership for Renewal In Southern and Central Maryland (PRISCM), a non-profit faith based group, the Prince George’s County Chapter of the NAACP and Prince George’s County Youth Strategies Division.
The event will take place this Saturday. Participating citizens should place all submitting firearms, unloaded, in the trunk of their vehicle. A uniformed officer will greet them at the entrance of the location and provide further directions. Unwanted ammunition may be submitted as well. At noon, Ms. Florena Carter will be in attendance to discuss how gun violence has negatively impacted her life.
