Police Arrest Kidnapping/Child Sex Assault Suspect

     The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Child and Vulnerable Adult Abuse Unit arrested 25-year-old Charles Asuming Amofa in connection with the sexual assault of a six-year-old girl in Lewisdale.

     Amofa, of the 600 block of Sheridan Street in Chillum, has been charged with kidnapping, first degree sex offense, second degree sex offense, second degree assault, and child abuse.  Amofa has been remanded to the Department of Corrections on a no bond status.

     The preliminary investigation revealed on August 6th, at approximately 1:25 p.m., Amofa approached the victim in the Value Village Store, located in the 2200 block of University Boulevard, and lured her outside.  He took the victim to the West Park Playground, located in the 2500 block of Chapman Road, where he's charged with sexually assaulting the child.  Police Officer First Class Fredys Castro-Rivas, a six-year veteran assigned to the Bureau of Patrol, located both the victim and Amofa near the 2500 block of Chapman Road. Amofa was arrested without incident.

     Throughout the investigation, detectives learned Amofa was also involved in a kidnapping and attempt sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl on July 9th.  During this incident, he lured the victim from the Value Village Thrift Store, took her to a secluded location, and attempted to sexually assault her. The victim fought off her attacker and managed to escape.
