Gunman Shoots at Police, Investigation Underway

On September 18th, 2012, at 10:07 p.m., Prince George’s County Police officers were dispatched to the Glassmanor area in Oxon Hill for the report of a man indiscriminately shooting a gun. Police Officer First Class Paul Schweinsburg and Police Officer Khaled Rasuli responded to the area and encountered the armed suspect in the 800 block of Southern Avenue along the Prince George’s County/Washington, D.C. border. The police officers told the suspect to drop the weapon, but he refused and began to fire multiple times at both police officers. POFC Schweinsburg and Police Officer Rasuli returned fire, critically injuring the suspect. He was transported to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition. The police officers were not hurt during the exchange of gunfire. Investigators recovered the weapon believed to belong to the gunman from the scene which lies in the District of Columbia. Charges are pending in this ongoing investigation.

 POFC Schweinsburg, a five-year veteran, and Police Officer Rasuli, who joined the department one year ago, were placed on routine administrative leave in accordance with departmental policy.
