PGPD Launching Effort to Keep Motorcyclists & Drivers Safe This Spring

Updated April 18, 2013, 8:00 am:  The news conference has been postponed due to weather.  We will advertise a new date shortly.

With temperatures on the rise, spring is the time of year many motorcyclists head back out on the roadways.  To keep county roads safe in 2013, the PGPD is partnering with the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration’s Safety Office and members of the riding community in launching a new awareness campaign.  The “SHARE THE ROAD” campaign will focus on stopping aggressive riding and distracted driving.  In 2012, there were 10 fatal motorcycle accidents in Prince George’s County.  In only three of those crashes, the rider was to blame.

Right next to the location of Thursday’s news conference, PGPD officers will be distributing educational information to both riders and drivers. One of the PGPD’s helicopters will also be on display. It’s being used in the department’s enforcement operation.
