PGPD COPS Officer Leads Girl Scout Troop

School is out for the summer in Prince George’s County. PGPD Corporal Tanya Smith is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of a group of young students this summer and throughout the school year.

Corporal Smith started the District III COPS Girl Scout Troop #3616 one year ago. There are now eight girls in the group, all between the fifth and eighth grades. Corporal Smith meets with the troop every second and fourth Saturday of the month at the Police Services Complex in Palmer Park. The scouts do a special project at each meeting. At the most recent gathering, Corporal Smith taught the girls how to juice and blend fruits and vegetables. She also discussed the benefits of adding daily exercise to healthy eating habits. 

The District III COPS Girl Scout troop is looking to expand its program and will meet throughout the summer months. “We are changing lives and making a difference in the community. We don’t take summer breaks because making a difference in a child’s life, or in a community, is a continuing process,” said Corporal Smith.
