PGPD and FBI Arrest Officer on Federal Charges

The Prince George's County Police Department's Special Investigation Response Team (SIRT) and the FBI arrested a PGPD police officer on an FBI warrant.  Corporal Vanessa Edwards was arrested on July 15, 2013.  Her arrest stems from an ongoing federal investigation.  She is accused of revealing confidential information about another federal investigation.

Edwards was assigned to the Narcotic Enforcement Division for more than six years until April of 2013.  On April 5, 2013, the PGPD was made aware of the federal investigation and immediately suspended Corporal Edwards' police powers and placed her on administrative duty.  She was reassigned to the Telephone Reporting Unit.  Following an internal suspension hearing on July 17, 2013, she is suspended without pay.

She joined the Prince George's County Police Department in 2004.

PGPD Deputy Chief Henry Stawinski is available for comment until 7:00 pm this evening.
