PGPD Arrests Murder Suspect Who Fled to North Carolina

Joshua Jones

The Prince George's County Police Department arrested a suspect wanted for the murder of Jerome Zephier Peters in Hillcrest Heights.  The suspect is identified as 23-year-old Joshua James Jones of the 2200 block of Columbia Place in Landover.  He was arrested in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

On June 30, 2013 at approximately 1:15 am, patrol officers were called to the 2900 block of St. Clair Drive for a shooting.  Upon arrival, the patrol officers found Peters suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Detectives believe this murder is domestic-related.  Peters was at a family member's home caring for his young child.  The child's mother and Jones arrived to pick up the child when an argument between the two men ensued.  During that argument, Jones shot Peters.

Through the course of the investigation, it was learned Jones fled to North Carolina.  Members of the PGPD Fugitive Squad travelled there and arrested him on July 9, 2013.  The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, NC, and the North Carolina Special Bureau of Investigation assisted with the arrest.  Jones faces first degree murder and related charges.  He remains in custody in North Carolina awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County.
