PGPD Investigates Attempted Theft of ATMs

The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating the attempted thefts of two ATMs this morning.

On August 14, 2013, at approximately 4:50 am, patrol officers were called to the Exxon Mobile gas station in the 4700 block of Allentown Road in Suitland for the report of robbery.  Upon arrival, the patrol officers discovered that two suspects had wrapped a chain around an outdoor ATM and tried to steal it.  They were not successful.  A short time later, at approximately 5:15 am, patrol officers were called to the Citgo gas station in the 5700 block of Old Branch Avenue in Camp Springs for the report of a breaking and entering in progress.  Once on scene, the patrol officers spotted two men inside trying to steal an ATM.  Once they saw the patrol officers,  the suspects fled in a pickup truck.  The suspects had used the pickup truck to slam into the side of the gas station.  The pickup truck was recovered a short distance away.

Patrol officers will conduct additional area checks on 24-hour businesses in the county.  Detectives are working to get the surveillance video from both of the gas stations.  They are looking into whether these two attempted thefts are connected.

Anyone with information on the identity or whereabouts of the suspects is asked to call the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Southern Regional Investigation Division at (301) 749-5064.  Callers wishing to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477), text “PGPD plus your crime tip” to CRIMES (274637) on your cell phone or go to www.pgcrimesolvers.com and submit a tip online.
