PGPD Makes Quick Arrest in Oxon Hill Murder

Shawn Josef Turner

The Prince George’s County Police Department arrested a suspect in connection with a murder in Oxon Hill. The suspect is identified as 45-year-old Shawn Josef Turner, of the 1600 block of 18th Street in Southeast Washington.

On August 21, 2013 at about 1:30 am, patrol officers were called to the 4500 block of Wheeler Road for a fight.  Upon their arrival, patrol officers found an unresponsive man inside the residence.  The victim is identified as 52-year-old Derrick Ricardo Espeut, of the 4500 block of Wheeler Road in Oxon Hill.  He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The preliminary investigation suggests Turner and Espeut began to argue while attending a party.  The argument became physical as the two men exited the apartment.  Detectives believe Turner punched Espeut.  The victim then struck his head and fell to the ground.  Turner was arrested a short time later by PGPD and MPDC patrol officers in the District of Columbia.  A warrant has been obtained for Turner, who remains in custody in the District of Columbia.  He is awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County, where he faces charges of manslaughter and first degree assault.
