PGPD Urges Businesses to Handle Money Safely

The Prince George’s County Police Department is urging businesses to follow safe money handling techniques. This comes after two courier robberies in recent days. Detectives believe the same suspect is responsible for both robberies. He’s seen here in this surveillance photograph.

The most recent robbery took place on December 16, 2013, at about 1:30 pm. The victim parked his work vehicle in front of a bank in the 6400 block of Allentown Road in Camp Springs. As he walked toward the bank with several deposit bags in plain sight, the suspect grabbed the victim and robbed him of some of the bags. The suspect then ran off. Detectives believe the same suspect robbed another courier of his deposit bag in front of a bank in the 10800 block of Indian Head Highway in Fort Washington on December 13, 2013. In this case, the courier also had the deposit bag out in plain sight.

The Prince George’s County Police Department urges all employees who handle money to follow these best practices:

*Never carry money out in the open, keep it hidden

*Vary the time money is taken to the bank for deposit

*If possible, two employees should take deposits to the bank

The PGPD recently released a video with these and other important safety tips for businesses. Please take a few minutes to review that video.
