Chief Magaw to Join Governor to Discuss Efforts to Further Cut Violent Crime

On Monday, Prince George’s County Police Chief Mark Magaw will join Governor Martin O’Malley at the latest stop of the Governor’s Results Tour. The Governor and Chief Magaw will join state and local leaders to discuss statewide efforts to further reduce violent crime, specifically crimes committed with guns. Under Chief Magaw’s leadership, Prince George’s County is seeing a historic drop in violent crime, most notably in the homicide rate. Homicides are down more than 45% compared to this time last year. That’s on top of a 38% drop from 2010 to 2013. Overall violent crime is also down more than three percent this year, which is in addition to a 30% drop between 2010 and 2013. Despite this tremendous progress, the PGPD recognizes that violent crime isn't acceptable and therefore we continue to strive on a daily basis to improve the quality of life for everyone who lives and works here.
