Michael Jess McLong
The
Prince George’s County Police Department arrested a man who had just tried to
kidnap a young girl in Landover. The suspect is 25-year-old Michael Jesse
McLong of no fixed address.
On
July 25, 2014, at about 2:25 pm, patrol officers were called to the 7300 block
of Landover Road for the report of an attempted kidnapping. When they arrived,
they learned McLong had approached a 12-year-old girl and her eight-year-old
brother as the siblings waited to cross Landover Road to meet their father.
The preliminary investigation reveals McLong identified himself as a
police officer and grabbed the girl's arm. The girl resisted but McLong
continued to pull her toward the back of a shopping center.
A
good Samaritan who was driving by the location stopped and confronted McLong.
That's when the children were able to break free and run away. An off-duty
Cheverly Police officer and a nearby security guard were able to detain McLong
and hold him until PGPD officers arrived.
McLong
now faces multiple charges related to the attempted kidnapping. He admitted his involvement.
Detectives
are investigating the possibility there are additional victims and would like
to speak with anyone who may have had contact with McLong.
