PGPD Patrol Officer Provides Critical Care to Teenage Shooting Victim

Investigators Seeking Public's Help to Identify Gunman

A Prince George’s County Police Department patrol officer is credited with providing critical care to a teenage shooting victim. The shooting happened last night in Fairmount Heights.

On October 17, 2014, at about 8:50 pm, patrol officers were called to the 5300 block of Sheriff Road for a shooting. When they arrived, they found the teenage victim in a parking lot near the intersection of Sheriff Road and Eastern Avenue.  He was suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. One of the responding patrol officers, Officer Brandon Farley of our District III station, immediately recognized the victim's injuries were severe. Officer Farley quickly grabbed his department issued trauma kit and was able to seal the chest wound.  The victim was then rushed to a hospital where he was last reported in critical but stable condition.

Medical personnel at the hospital reported that Officer Farley’s quick thinking and timely medical aid stabilized the victim and prevented his lung from collapsing.

In 2014, our Training and Education Division began training all PGPD officers in the use of these trauma kits. Our patrol officers have successfully provided life-saving care several times this year using these medical kits.

Detectives would like to talk to anyone who witnessed or may have information on the shooting. The preliminary investigation reveals the shooting may have stemmed from an argument.  Detectives believe the suspect is a black male with a medium build.  The suspect may have been wearing a blue Helly Hanson jacket, dark pants and black boots at the time of the shooting.  The suspect fled in a dark colored  4-door car.
