PGPD Unveils New Tool to Slow Down Speeders in School Zones

The Prince George’s County Police Department today showcased new laser equipment designed to slow down speeders in school zones.

It’s called the DragonCam. The photo laser equipment gives officers the ability to document a driver’s excessive speed and take a photo of the violation. This new handheld technology will allow officers to quickly deploy to any of the 146 school zones around the county.

Prince George’s County is the second jurisdiction in the nation to use this equipment. Beginning with a 30-day pilot program, we will issue warnings to owners whose car was observed and captured speeding. After that, violations will come with a $40 citation. Before each deployment of this equipment, the officer will calibrate and test the equipment to ensure it’s working properly.
