PGPD Searches for Missing Woman

The Prince George’s County Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in searching for a missing person. She is identified as 60-year-old Cathy Lyn Sarjeant.

Sarjeant was last seen in 6000 block of Westchester Park Drive in College Park on April 21, 2016 at 12:00 pm.

Sarjeant is described as an African American female, 5’6”, and 300 pounds.

PGPD Among First in Nation to Poll Residents on Services Via Nextdoor

PGPD Investigates Homicide in Capitol Heights

The Prince George's County Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting in Capitol Heights on Thursday night. The victim is 26-year-old Julius Brown of Washington, DC. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. 

At about 10:40 pm, patrol officers were called to the 1700 block of Kenilworth Avenue. When they arrived, they found the victim in a parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. He died several hours later at a hospital. 

Detectives are working to establish a motive and identify the suspect(s).

Restaurant Robbery

Our Robbery Unit detectives are working to find and arrest these two suspects who robbed a pizza restaurant at gunpoint. The store is in the 5300 block of Indian Head Highway in Oxon Hill. Gas Station Robbery

Fast Food Restaurant Robbery

The man in this photo is wanted for robbing a fast food restaurant in the 4300 block of St. Barnabas Road. The robbery took place on the 25^th at about 12:20am. PGPD Investigates Homicide in Forestville

The Prince George's County Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting in Forestville early this morning. The victim is 49-year-old Joanne Woods of Mason Street in District Heights. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random act. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.

At about 1:25 am, patrol officers were called to the 6600 block of Hil Mar Drive for a shooting. When they arrived, they found Woods outside suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead on the scene. Four additional victims were also shot. Two remain in the hospital. The other two victims have been released from the hospital. None of their injuries appear life-threatening.

The preliminary investigation reveals the victims were standing outside when they were shot by a suspect who was in a car. That car then sped from the area.

PGPD Officers to Receive Valor Awards

They are credited with bravely confronting two armed car thieves, jumping into a frozen pond to rescue a child and racing toward a burning car to help save the driver. PGPD Remembers Fallen Officer John J. Novabilski

Let us pause to remember our fallen hero Sergeant John J. Novabilski, lost this day in 1995.

Sergeant Novabilski was born on April 25, 1964, in Old Forge, Pennsylvania.  He joined the Prince George's County Police Department in August of 1988, after serving three years with the Baltimore City Police Department.  When he graduated from the academy,  Sergeant Novabilski was assigned to the District III station.  He also served at the District II station before being transferred to District VI.

On the evening of April 26, 1995, Sergeant Novabilski was working a secondary employment assignment at a restaurant in Kentland.  While sitting in his marked police cruiser, a suspect approached him from behind, and without warning, opened fire with a MAC-11 assault weapon.  Sergeant Novabilski was struck multiple times in the head and upper body.  He was rushed to Prince George's Hospital Center where he sadly was pronounced dead.

Sergeant Novabilski served the Prince George's County Police Department for seven years and was the 21st member of this agency to make the ultimate sacrifice.  He was the 33rd law enforcement officer to give his life while serving this profession within Prince George's County.

At the time of his death, Sergeant John J. Novabilski was 31 years old and survived by his wife.

PGPD Investigates Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Riverdale Park

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision in Riverdale Park. The victim is 54-year-old Jose Berrios.

On April 24, 2016, at about 9:20 pm, patrol officers were called to the intersection of Kenilworth Avenue at River Road for a collision involving a pedestrian. When they arrived, the officers found the victim suffering from critical injuries. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The preliminary investigation reveals a car heading northbound on Kenilworth Avenue struck Berrios as he tried to cross the street. He was not in a crosswalk at the time. The driver of the car remained on the scene. She was not hurt.

PGPD Arrests Suspect in Clinton Homicide

The Prince George’s County Police Department arrested a suspect in connection with last Saturday’s fatal shooting in Clinton. The suspect is 25-year-old Antonio Barnett of the 2300 block of Love Place in Waldorf.

On April 16, 2016, at about 9:50 pm, patrol officers found the victim, Carl Marshall, suffering from a gunshot wound in the 5300 block of Vienna Drive. He died from his injuries at the scene.

Preliminarily, detectives believe an argument between the suspect and victim led to the fatal shooting. Barnett is charged with first and second degree murder. He is being held at the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.

Drugstore Theft

We are starting Wanted Wednesday this week with photos of two suspects who stole nearly $1,000 worth of bathroom products from a drugstore. The suspects swiped the items from the store in the 5000 block of Sargent Road back on March 27^th at about 11:15 am. Donut Shop Robbery

Theft Investigation

Detectives would like to talk to the group in these photos about a theft in College Park. The theft happened on April 2^nd at about 8:40 pm at an apartment building in the 8000 block of Baltimore Avenue. The Prince George's County Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting in Clinton Saturday night. The victim is 22-year-old Carl Patrick Marshall of Rockwell Drive in Clinton. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random act. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. 

At about 9:50 pm, patrol officers were called to the 5300 block of Vienna Drive for the report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found Marshall in the street suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Crash in Suitland

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash in Suitland. The victim is 24-year-old Ashley Murphy of Hartford Street in Southeast Washington.

On April 16, 2016, at about 2:00 am, patrol officers were called to the intersection of Suitland Road and Meadowview Drive for a crash involving one car.

The preliminary investigation reveals the car was heading westbound on Suitland Road when for reasons which are under investigation, the driver lost control and the car left the road and struck a pole. The driver was critically injured. Murphy, the passenger, was pronounced dead at a hospital a short time later.

The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting in Chillum on Sunday. The victim is 25-year-old Gamaliel Nerio Rico of Spring Road in Bladensburg. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random act. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.

On April 17, 2016, at about 3:00 am, patrol officers were called to the 6800 block of Riggs Road for a shooting. When they arrived, they found two men outside suffering from gunshot wounds. Nerio Rico died several hours later at a hospital. The second victim is in critical condition.

Detectives are working to identify a motive and suspect(s) in this case.

Firefighter Fatally Shot, Second Wounded Answering Call in Temple Hills

Updated April 16, 2016: This evening, the Temple Hills homeowner who shot three people, two firefighters and the man's brother who responded with the firefighters, has been released from police custody. Detectives continue to investigate the incident and are asking for anyone who may have additional details to contact our CID at 301-772-4925. No charges have been placed at this time.

The Prince George's County Police Department is investigating the fatal shooting of a firefighter in Temple Hills. The fallen Firefighter/Medic is John Ulmschneider, a 13-year veteran of the Prince George's County Fire Department. Volunteer firefighter, Kevin Swain, was also shot. He is in serious condition. 

At about 7:30 pm, a relative called 911 expressing concern about a family member who lives in a home in the 5000 block of Sharon Road. PGFD personnel responded to check on the man. Shortly after arriving at the home, the man opened fire, striking two firefighters and the family member who made the initial 911 call. That family member's injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Prince George's County Police officers rushed to the scene and were able to take the shooter into custody. He is being interviewed by detectives. No charges have been filed at this time.

The Prince George's County Police Department extends our deepest condolences for the loss of Firefighter/Medic Ulmschneider. His family and the entire PGFD are in our thoughts and prayers.

PGPD Makes Arrest in 2013 Landover Homicide

The Prince George’s County Police Department has made an arrest in the 2013 homicide of 23-year-old Nii Akpeng of the 2500 block of Buck Lodge Terrace in Adelphi. The suspect is 34-year-old Aurain Azoo Delahaye of Houston Avenue in Takoma Park. 


On November 29, 2013, at about 4:50 am, patrol officers were called to the 3700 block of West Street in Landover for a shooting.  When officers arrived, they discovered Akpeng, who had been shot. 

The preliminary investigation suggests Akpeng was shot during a fight with Delahaye following a party. Detectives don’t believe the two knew each other.
 

Delahaye is charged with first and second degree murder and related charges. He’s being held at the Department of Corrections without bond.

ATM Skimmer Investigation

Our Regional Investigation Division – Central Region is working to identify and arrest this suspect who attached a skimming device to an ATM at the SunTrust Bank on Watkins Park Drive in Upper Marlboro. Robbery Investigation

Our Robbery Unit detectives want to talk to the man seen smiling in this picture. They would like to discuss a recent armed robbery at a cell phone store in the 9100 block of Alaking Court in Capitol Heights. Two suspects robbed the store on March 12^th at about 4:40 pm. Stolen Credit Card Information Case

The man in these pictures is wanted in connection with a case involving stolen credit card information. Our investigation reveals he used the stolen information to buy items at a store in the 2300 block of Petrie Lane in Lanham. This occurred on March 8^th. Daycare Provider Arrested in Homicide of Infant

The Prince George’s County Police Department arrested a daycare provider in connection with the death of a baby girl in her care in December. The suspect is 43-year-old Beatrice Manning of the 5600 block of Helmont Place in Oxon Hill. The victim is nine-month-old Savannah Wright of North Anvil Lane in Temple Hills.

On December 2, 2015, around 7:00 am, the baby's mother dropped off Savannah at Manning's home. Around 11:00 am, the investigation reveals Manning called 911 saying Savannah was lethargic and had become unresponsive. At about 5:30 that evening, detectives were called to the Children's National Medical Center and notified the victim was suffering from a brain injury and was on life support. On December 4^th, Savannah passed away.  

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in the District of Columbia ruled the cause of death was blunt force injury to the head and the manner of death was a homicide. Autopsy results and the investigation reveal Savannah's injuries occurred while in Manning’s care.

Manning was arrested on April 5, 2016. She is charged with first degree murder, assault and child abuse. She is in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.

Detectives to Canvass Forestville Neighborhood in Homicide Investigation

 

 

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit will canvass a Forestville neighborhood this evening where a man was recently found murdered. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered in this case.

 

On March 23, 2016, at about 5:20 am, patrol officers were called to the 5000 block of Hil Mar Drive. The victim’s body had been found outside of a home. The investigation reveals the man had been shot and also set on fire. The victim was later identified as Rashaad Tate.

 

Detectives will pass out Crime Solvers flyers seeking information in this investigation. The canvass is scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm in the 4000-5000 block of Hil Mar Drive.

County Executive & Police Chief to Hold Ceremonial Ribbon Cutting at PGPD’s New Training and Education Facility

On Thursday, Prince George’s County Executive Rushern Baker and Chief of Police Hank Stawinski will hold a ceremonial ribbon cutting at the Prince George’s County Police Department’s new Training and Education Division facility. Prince George’s County Council Chair, Derrick Davis, will also be on hand for the event.
