The Collision Analysis and
Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision in Fairmount
Heights. The victim is 61-year-old Jeffery Matthews of Addison Road in
Fairmount Heights.
On September 28th, at about 8:50
pm, patrol officers were called to the 5300 block of Sheriff Road for a
collision involving a pickup truck and a pedestrian.
The preliminary investigation
reveals the pickup truck was traveling westbound on Sheriff Road when it
struck Matthews as he was attempting to cross the roadway. Preliminarily, it
appears Matthews was not in a crosswalk. Matthews was pronounced dead at the
scene. The driver of the truck remained on the scene.
