PGPD Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Edmonston

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision in Edmonston. The victim is 52-year-old Juan Gomez of Edmonston Road.

On January 31st, at about 6:20 am, patrol officers were called to the 4200 block of Kenilworth Avenue for a collision involving a pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation reveals the dump truck was making a right turn onto southbound Kenilworth Avenue when it struck the victim. Investigators are working to determine where the victim was at the time of the collision. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives Investigate Fatal Shooting in District Heights

Homicide Unit detectives are working to identify the suspect who shot and killed a man in a District Heights gas station on Monday. The victim is 20-year-old Carrington Daye Jr., of South Hilmar Circle in District Heights. Preliminarily, detectives do not believe this was a random crime. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.

On January 30^th, at approximately 4:40 pm, patrol officers responded to a gas station in the 3200 block of Walters Lane for a shooting. They found the victim inside the business suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Detectives are working to identify the suspect who fled the scene and the motive in this fatal shooting.

Suspect in Double Homicide Injured by Apparent Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wounds

Update January 30, 2017: The victims in this weekend’s triple homicide in the City of Bowie are 46-year-old Sherwood Morgan of Lake Arbor Way in Mitchellville, 27-year-old Jin Chen of Dove Circle in Laurel and 28-year-old Xue Zou of Doves Fly Way in Laurel.

Updated January 29, 2017: The third victim shot at the restaurant in the city of Bowie has died of his injuries. The names of the three victims will be released on Monday. 

The suspect in a double homicide early this morning in the city of Bowie is hospitalized with two apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds.  He is identified as 40-year-old Karlief Moye. His last known address is in the 1100 block of La Grande Place in Silver Spring.

This morning, at around 2:15 am, officers with the Bowie Police Department responded to the Blue Sunday Bar & Grill in the 6800 block of Race Track Road. Officers found three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Two of the victims died of their injuries. The third victim's injuries are considered life-threatening. All of the victims and the suspect are employees of the restaurant.  

Through the course of the investigation, Prince George's County Police Department homicide detectives identified Moye as the suspect. Investigators located Moye in Silver Spring late this morning.  At about 11:30 am, as investigators were canvassing the area around his home in Silver Spring, they observed him running into a wooded area of the Northwest Branch Park. The preliminary investigation reveals he shot himself twice in those woods. He is being treated at a local hospital. 

The initial incident in the city of Bowie appears to be a case of workplace violence as a result of a dispute between employees.

The Prince George's County Police department's Homicide Unit handles all homicide investigations within the city of Bowie.

Suspect Charged With Attempting to Sell Fake Gold to Off-Duty Officer

 

Detectives with the Financial Crimes Unit charged a man after he tried to sell fake gold to an off-duty officer in Bowie. The suspect is 33-year-old Laurentiun Miclescu of the 2100 block of Orleans Street in Baltimore.

On Monday afternoon, the officer was walking to his car in a shopping center parking lot in the 6800 block of Racetrack Road when he was approached by the suspect. The suspect told the off-duty officer he lost his credit card and offered to sell him gold in exchange for cash. The officer knew of an on-going investigation into a fake gold scam in the county and detained the suspect. The suspect was interviewed and cited for theft by deception.  

Investigators know of three other similar incidents in the county since December. Detectives believe there could be additional victims. If you believe you may have been victimized, please call the Financial Crimes Unit at 240-695-7435.

Detectives Arrest Two Suspects in Waldorf Homicide

Homicide Unit detectives arrested and charged two suspects in the murder of Juan Gonzalez-Mejia last Saturday. The suspects are 25-year-old Byron Leon-Ramos of the 2200 block of Old Washington Road in Waldorf and 24-year-old Selvin Romero-Leon of the 3600 block of Old Washington Road in Waldorf.

On January 21^st, at about 3:00 pm, a concerned citizen flagged down a Charles County Sheriff’s Deputy after spotting a man lying in a wooded area in the 16900 block of Mattawoman Lane. The victim was suffering from trauma to his body and pronounced dead on the scene.

The preliminary investigation reveals an argument escalated into the homicide. The suspects and victim knew each other. The two suspects are charged with first and second degree murder. They have admitted their involvement in the homicide. They’re in custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.

PGPD Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Accokeek

UPDATE January 27, 2017: The victim has been identified as 58-year-old George Lewis of Manning Road in Accokeek.

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal pedestrian collision in Accokeek. 

On January 25th, at about 7:40 pm, patrol officers were called to Berry Road and Indian Head Highway for a collision involving a pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation reveals an SUV struck the victim who was in the westbound lane of Berry Road. He was also struck by two additional cars. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The drivers all remained on the scene. Preliminarily, it does not appear the victim was in a crosswalk.

PGPD Releases Photo and Description in Active Ongoing Search for Domestic Violence Shooting Suspect at a School Bus Stop

Prince George’s County Police detectives obtained an arrest warrant for 42 year old Roland Eugene Simms of no fixed address for attempted 1st degree murder, reckless endangerment, first and second degree assault, and other related charges. 

Simms is considered armed and dangerous.  PGPD officers are engaged in an active search and are asking for the public’s assistance in locating him.  Simms is described as a black male, 42 years old, 5’8, 210 pounds, black hair, and brown eyes. 

At 7:12 AM on Tuesday, January 24th, Simms approached an adult woman who was standing at a school bus stop at the intersection of Chester and Winthrop streets in Oxon Hill.  The two are known to each other.  After a brief verbal argument which turned physical, Simms pulled out a gun and shot the victim.  The victim is being treated at a local hospital.

There were several elementary school age children standing at the bus stop at the time of this incident.  None of them were injured.

Hillcrest Heights Homicide Victim Identified

Thanks to help from our media partners, we now know the identity of a recent homicide victim. She’s 26-year-old Takeisha Hughes-Coats of R Street in Northeast Washington. Her family contacted detectives after seeing the story on an evening newscast Monday.

On January 15th, at about 10:10 pm, the victim was found outside suffering from gunshot wounds in the 3100 block of Good Hope Avenue in Hillcrest Heights. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide Unit detectives today released additional sketches of the victim who was shot and killed in Hillcrest Heights. Detectives are asking for our community’s help in identifying her.

On January 15th, at about 10:10 pm, the victim was found outside suffering from gunshot wounds in the 3100 block of Good Hope Avenue. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim is an African American female, about 5’6”, 125 pounds and between 25 and 30 years old.

Detectives have entered the victim’s physical and biometric information into a national database which they hope will assist in  identifying her. This database is cross referenced with missing person databases. Detectives have also handed out thousands of flyers throughout the region in an effort to identify her.

Burglary Suspect

We’re starting Wanted Wednesday this week with the photo of a burglary suspect. The suspect is wanted for breaking into a business in the 6500 block of New Hampshire Avenue on January 10^th. Robbery Investigation

These two suspects are wanted for robbing a business in Fairmount Heights last Friday. They started the gas station in the 5300 block of Sheriff Road. One of the suspects had a gun. Pizza Restaurant Robbery

Detectives are also working to make an arrest in the robbery at a pizza restaurant in Capitol Heights. Restaurant Robbery

This armed suspect is wanted for robbing a restaurant in Clinton on Saturday. The business is in the 6200 block of Coventry Way. He targeted the restaurant around 5:00 pm. Please call 301-772-4905 with any information.

Suspended Officer Enters Guilty Plea

A suspended Prince George’s County Police Officer entered a guilty plea today to two counts of misconduct in office and four counts of visual surveillance with prurient intent.

Police Officer First Class James Sims has been suspended with pay since June when he was accused of taking inappropriate pictures of women while on-duty during traffic stops and while off-duty. 

The Department immediately initiated an Internal Affairs investigation upon learning of the allegations and brought the findings to the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Police Chief Hank Stawinski issued this statement following the guilty plea:

“The Police Department derives its authority to enforce the law from the community. Therefore, violations of the community’s trust are the most serious infractions a police officer can commit. I would like to apologize to the community, but, also, to reassure our residents that this has been taken extraordinarily seriously as a form of corruption.  I have worked with the State’s Attorney, Angela Alsobrooks, to ensure that this individual, who does not represent this institution, is held accountable for his actions.”   

Sims joined the Department in 2010. The administrative process will continue once the court action is complete. Sims is scheduled to be sentenced in court on February 17^th, 2017.

Detectives Arrest Four Suspects in Murder of Khalil Wiggins

Homicide Unit detectives arrested and charged four suspects in the murder of Khalil Wiggins in December. The suspects are 22-year-old Michael Stevenson III of the 4200 block of 6th Street in Southeast Washington, 22-year-old Quran Middleton-Bey of the 10700 block of Moray Court in Cheltenham, 23-year-old Kierra Williams of the 5700 block of Reading Avenue in Alexandria and 23-year-old Damond Foster of the 3600 block of Edison Street in Alexandria.

On December 29th, at about 8:40 pm, patrol officers responded to the 3900 block of Byers Street for the report of a shooting. They found the victim inside of his home suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Preliminarily, the motive appears to be robbery. The four suspects are charged with first and second degree murder. They have admitted their involvement in the homicide. They’re in custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.

PGPD Investigating Non-Fatal Shooting

Around 12:00 pm today, Prince George's County Police received a call for a shooting.

The preliminary investigation reveals a group of Suitland High School students walked off school property. When the group arrived at an adjacent apartment complex, there was an argument. During the argument, one of the students pulled out a handgun and fired multiple times. One round struck a student in the leg. It appears to be a non-life threatening injury. The wounded student was helped back to school property where a school administrator was flagged down. The administrator immediately notified a school resource officer who in turn requested assistance from our officers. Our detectives and officers arrived on scene and placed Suitland High school on lockdown out of an abundance of caution. Once officers cleared the school and determined the property and students were safe, the lockdown was lifted.  

Detectives believe the shooter left the area and an active search is underway. 

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that one of the rounds fired off property did travel through an upper window of an annex building on Suitland High School property. That round traveled about 12 inches into the room at a high angle and lodged in the ceiling. There was a teacher and a student inside the classroom at the time.  No one was injured.  

There was never an active shooter situation inside the school property.

Detectives Release Surveillance Video of Suspects Breaking into Cars

Please take a moment to watch this video of thieves breaking into cars in Oxon Hill. In the video, three suspects are seen going from vehicle to vehicle, checking to see if the doors are locked and looking for valuables. Items were stolen from several of the vehicles. This happened last month in a parking lot in the 800 block of Marcy Avenue.  

These types of thefts take just seconds to commit and are occurring across the county, typically in the early morning hours.

The PGPD is offering the following tips to help citizens prevent falling victim to these thefts: 

•      Please always lock your car doors
•      Do not leave any valuables inside of your vehicle
•      Take bags out of your car or place them securely in the trunk
•      Never leave your vehicle running while you’re not inside

Detectives are working to find and arrest this suspect in connection with a non-contact shooting. The shooting occurred on January 5^tharound 2:00 am in the area of Baltimore Avenue and Knox Road. The victim was driving in the area when their car was struck by gunfire. The victim wasn’t hurt. Theft from Auto

The car and suspect in these photos are linked to a string of thefts. One of those thefts happened on December 13^th in the 11000 block of Edmonston Road in Beltsville. Game Store Robbery

 

These two suspects are wanted in connection with a robbery at a game store in Oxon Hill. This crime happened on January 6^th at 12:05 pm at the store in the 6200 block of Livingston Road. On January 8^th, at about 2:30 pm, patrol officers responded to the intersection of Hill Park Drive and Dunlap Street for the report of a shooting. They found the victim outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Detectives Charge Suspect in Suitland Homicide

Homicide Unit detectives charged a suspect in connection with a homicide in Suitland in late December. The suspect is 25-year-old Devonte Proctor of the 3200 block of Walters Lane in District Heights. 

On December 31st, at about 5:25 am, the victim, 34-year-old Terria Petty of Suitland, was found in 3500 block of Silver Park Drive outside in the rear of a building. She was suffering from a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The preliminary investigation reveals the victim and suspect got into an argument that escalated into the fatal shooting. The victim and suspect were acquaintances.  

Proctor is charged with first and second degree murder and a weapons charge. He has admitted his involvement in the murder. He's being held at the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.

Detectives Release Video of ATM Theft

Detectives today released surveillance video of three suspects who stole an ATM from a gas station. The thieves committed this crime on December 20^th in the 3200 block of Queens Chapel Road. In the video, the suspects are seen crashing a truck into the ATM in order to dislodge it, then working to get it into the back of the truck and driving off.

This theft is one of six similar cases in the county in December. Of those six cases, suspects successfully stole four ATMS at different gas stations. In each incident, as many as four suspects were involved in the theft. Detectives are working to determine if the cases are connected.

Felony Theft

We’re looking for this suspect who is wanted for a theft. Armed Citizen Robbery

This suspect is wanted for a robbery in District Heights. The preliminary investigation reveals he robbed a victim of her purse in the 8200 block of Steve Drive on December 28^th at about 7:10 pm. Attempted Burglary Investigation
