PGPD Investigates Fatal Collision in Brandywine

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal collision in Brandywine. The victim is 46-year-old James Hawkins of Massachusetts Avenue in Northwest Washington.

On February 5th, around 8:45 pm, patrol officers were called to Brandywine Road near Gibbons Church Road for a crash involving one car. Officers found Hawkins, the front seat passenger, unresponsive. He was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the car sustained what preliminarily appear to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation reveals the car was traveling southbound on Brandywine Road, when for reasons which remain under investigation, crossed over the center line and ultimately struck a utility pole.
