Detectives
with our Homicide Unit identified and arrested a suspect wanted for a recent
homicide in Capitol Heights. The suspect is 38-year-old Martinez Ferrell of the
1000 block of Atlee Drive in Landover. He’s charged with the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Kevin Hawkins of Harrods Way in Landover.
On July 29th, at about
11:30 am, patrol officers were called to the 1400 block of Pine Grove Road for
a welfare check. The officers found the victim lying on the side of the roadway
suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to the hospital in critical
condition. He died of his injuries on August 3rd.
Through
the course of the investigation, detectives identified Ferrell as a suspect in
this fatal shooting. He and the victim were acquaintances. Detectives are working to identify the motive in this case.
