PGPD Investigating Fatal Collision in Cheverly

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal collision involving a motorcycle in Cheverly. The victim is 44-year-old Christopher McClain of 39^th Place in Colmar Manor.

On October 1^st, at approximately 3:30 pm, officers responded to the intersection of Old Landover Road and 65^th Avenue for the report of a collision involving a car and a motorcycle. McClain, who was operating the motorcycle, and his passenger were rushed to local hospitals. McClain was pronounced dead a short time later.

The preliminary investigation reveals the motorcycle was heading westbound on Old Landover Road approaching the intersection at 65^th Avenue. The involved car was heading eastbound on Old Landover Road approaching the same intersection. Preliminarily, it appears the car attempted to make a left turn onto northbound 65^th Avenue in the path of the approaching motorcycle. McClain applied his brakes in an attempt to avoid a collision. His motorcycle went into a slide. McClain’s passenger, a young child, suffered what appear to be non-life threatening injuries. The car’s driver wasn’t injured and remained on scene.
