New District VIII Station Opens for Service

On Thursday, Prince George’s County Police Chief Hank Stawinski and county leadership held a ceremonial ribbon cutting at the new District VIII police station in Upper Marlboro. This state-of-the-art station has been in development for nearly one decade. It’s now fully operational with approximately 100 assigned officers.

The new District VIII is the busiest sector in the county. It covers 18 square miles and serves neighborhoods in Suitland, Forestville, Westphalia, Coral Hills, and areas surrounding Capitol Heights and District Heights.  These communities used to be served by the District III station in Landover. Now that officers will be stationed in Upper Marlboro, there will be more opportunity for community engagement, faster response times and improved police services for residents who live within District VIII.

“Our investment in the new District VIII Police Station shows our commitment to community-oriented policing, ensuring that our Police Department is visible and accessible to the residents that they serve,” said Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks. “This new station will allow us to continue the downward trend in crime across our County as we build an even more responsive, transparent and accountable Police Department.”

“Not only does this new station help to bring our officers and the residents they serve closer together, it also signals to the men and women of the Department that their tireless work is now matched by a facility that exudes the same excellence they display every single day on the streets of our beautiful County,” said Chief Hank Stawinski.

The opening of the new District VIII station came just as the new state-of-art offices of the Criminal Investigations and Special Investigations Divisions became operational. 

The new offices are located in the same building just above District VIII and feature innovative interview facilities and a curated space for witnesses and families where they can feel safe.

Abre sus Puertas la Nueva Comandancia del Distrito VIII

Este jueves, el Jefe de la Policía del Condado de Prince George, Hank Stawinski y el liderato del Condado celebraron la apertura de la sede del recién establecido Distrito VIII en Upper Marlboro. La sede, que cuenta con lo último de la tecnología, estuvo en preparativos por casi una década. Al presente se encuentra totalmente operacional y alberga aproximadamente a 100 oficiales asignados.

El nuevo Distrito VIII funge como el sector más ocupado del Condado. El mismo cubre 18 millas cuadradas y brinda servicios a vecindarios en Suitland, Forestville, Westphalia, Coral Hills y áreas que bordean a Capitol Heights y District Heights. Dichas comunidades solían estar atendidas por la sede del Distrito III en Landover. Ahora que los oficiales estarán asignados al área de Upper Marlboro, habrá mayores oportunidades para involucrarse en la comunidad, responder a situaciones más rápido y prestar mejores servicios policiales a residentes que vivan dentro del Distrito VIII.

“Nuestra inversión en la Estación del Distrito VIII de la Policía demuestra nuestro compromiso con las iniciativas policiales centradas en colaboración con la comunidad, asegurándonos de que nuestro Departamento de la Policía es transparente y accesible a los residentes a quienes asiste,” dijo la Ejecutiva del Condado de Prince George, Angela Alsobrooks. “La nueva sede nos permitirá continuar la baja en crimen a lo largo del Condado a medida que continuamos construyendo un Departamento de la Policía aún más responsivo, transparente y confiable.”

“No solo nos ayuda la nueva estación a traer a los oficiales más cerca de los residentes a quienes protegen, sino que también deja comunica a los hombres y mujeres del departamento que su incansable labor ahora quedará equiparada por unas facilidades que proyectan la misma excelencia que éstos muestran a diario en las calles de nuestro hermoso Condado,” dijo el Jefe de la Policía, Hank Stawinski.

La apertura de la estación del nuevo Distrito VIII coincide con el momento en que las oficinas de la División de Investigaciones Criminales y División de Investigaciones Especiales se tornaron operacionales.

Las nuevas oficinas están ubicadas en el mismo edificio, justo arriba del Distrito VIII e incluyen innovadoras facilidades para entrevistas/interrogatorios, así como un espacio reservado para que testigos y sus familiares se sientan seguros.
