April 15, 2020: Jerome Harris is in custody in New York. Authorities located
and arrested him the evening of April 14th in Brooklyn. He will
remain in New York pending extradition to Prince George’s County.

The Prince George’s County Police Department obtained an arrest warrant for the man wanted in connection with fatally shooting a woman inside of the suspect’s Chillum apartment on Friday night. The suspect then set a fire in the home before fleeing the scene. The victim is 23-year-old Zena Nichols of Washington, DC. The suspect is 42-year-old Jerome John Harris of the 7000 block of Highview Terrace. The suspect and victim were in a relationship.

On April 10th, at approximately 10:10 pm, Prince
George’s County Fire personnel responded to the 7000 block of Highview Terrace.
They observed smoke coming from the windows and door of a second-floor apartment. Once inside,
firefighters found the victim in a bedroom suffering from severe burns. She was
pronounced dead on the scene. An autopsy later
determined the victim had been shot. Her cause of death was ruled to be
multiple gunshot wounds and the manner a homicide.
Harris
is charged with first and second degree murder, arson, assault and related
charges. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to
his arrest and indictment. The motive for the domestic-related murder remains
under investigation.

Detectives de PGPD Acusan a Sospechoso en Conexión a
Asesinato de Mujer Hallada Calcinada en Fuego de Apartamento
El Departamento de la Policía del Condado
de Prince George’s obtuvo una orden de arresto contra el individuo a quien se
busca en conexión a la muerte a tiros de una mujer dentro del apartamento del
sospechoso en Chillum, el pasado viernes en la noche. Posteriormente, el
sospechoso prendió en fuego en el apartamento antes de irse a la fuga. La
víctima fue identificada como Zena Nichols, de 23 años de edad y vecina de
Washington DC. El sospechoso fue identificado como John Harris, de 42 años de
edad y vecino de la cuadra 7000 de Highview Terrace. El sospechoso y la víctima
estaban en una relación.
El 10 de abril, a eso de las 10:10 de
la noche, personal del Departamento de Bomberos del Condado de Prince George’s
acudieron a la cuadra 7000 de Highview Terrace tras recibir información sobre
un incendio. Estos pudieron observar humo que salía de la puerta y ventanas de
un apartamento en el segundo piso. Una vez entraron, los bomberos hallaron a la
víctima con quemaduras severas dentro de un cuarto. Ésta fue declarada muerta
en la escena. Una autopsia luego revelaría que a la víctima le habían disparado.
Se determinó que su muerte fue causada por múltiples impactos de bala y que la
misma era un homicidio.
Harris enfrenta cargos por asesinato
en primer y segundo grado, incendio y agresión, entre otros. Se ofrece una
recompensa de hasta $25,000 por cualquier información que llevase a su arresto
y convicción. El motivo del asesinato de naturaleza doméstica aún permanece
bajo investigación.
