Homicide Unit detectives identified and charged a suspect in connection with a domestic related homicide that occurred in Capitol Heights. The suspect is 50-year-old Kenneth Duane Sedgwick of Southern Avenue in Capitol Heights, Maryland. He is charged with fatally shooting 51-year-old Kim Gooden also of Capitol Heights. The suspect and victim were in an on-going relationship.
On August 14th, at
approximately 11:45 am, patrol officers responded to the 4100 block of Southern
Avenue for a welfare check. The victim was located inside her home suffering
from multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead on scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed
the suspect shot the victim inside the home in the early morning hours of
August 12th before fleeing the area. The suspect and victim were
known to each other. The motive remains under investigation.
Sedgwick is charged with first and
second degree murder and related assault charges. He is in custody in
Washington DC awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County.

Detectives Acusan a Sospechoso en Homicidio de
Naturaleza Doméstica en Capitol Heights
Detectives de la Unidad de Homicidios identificaron y acusaron a un sospechoso en conexión a un homicidio de naturaleza doméstica ocurrido en Capitol Heights. El sospechoso es Kenneth Duane Sedgwick, de 50 años de edad y vecino de Southern Avenue, en Capitol Heights. A éste se le acusa de haber matado a tiros a Kim Gooden, de 51 años de edad y también vecina de Capitol Heights. La víctima y el sospechoso tenían una relación.
El 14 de agosto, a eso de las 11:45 de la mañana, oficiales de patrulla acudieron a la cuadra 4100 de Southern Avenue, en el área de Capitol Heights, para llevar a cabo un chequeo de bienestar. Al llegar, estos hallaron a la víctima con múltiples heridas de bala y le declararon muerta en la escena.
La investigación preliminar reveló que el sospechoso le disparó a la víctima dentro del hogar en las horas tempranas del 12 de agosto, antes de huir del área. El sospechoso y la víctima se conocían entre sí, no obstante, el motivo permanece bajo investigación.
Sedgwick enfrenta cargos por asesinato en primer y segundo grado, entre otros cargos relacionados por motivo de agresión. Este se encuentra bajo custodia en Washington DC mientras espera ser extraditado al Condado de Prince George’s.
