The
Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit identified and
arrested the suspect wanted for the fatal shooting of a security guard in the
town of Riverdale Park. The suspect is 24-year-old Desmond Mbah of the 11000
block of Blanding Court in Bowie. He’s charged with fatally shooting
23-year-old Riyadh Al Janabi of Rockville.
On February 11, 2021,
at approximately 8:10 pm, officers with Riverdale Park Police and the PGPD
responded to the report of a carjacking and shooting in the 5400 block of 54th
Avenue. The victim was located in the parking lot of an apartment complex
suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead a short time later at a
hospital. The victim was working as a security guard at the complex when he was
shot. His car was also stolen.
Through various
investigative techniques, the suspect was identified and arrested on Wednesday.
The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect shot the victim during a
carjacking. The stolen car has been recovered.
Mbah
is charged with first and second degree murder, carjacking and related charges.
He’s in the custody of the Department of Corrections. A commissioner ordered
him held on a no-bond status. He has confessed to the fatal shooting.
The Prince
George’s County Police Department investigates all homicides that
occur in the town of Riverdale Park.

PGPD Identifica y Arresta al Sospechoso que Asesinó a
Guardia de Seguridad en Riverdale Park
La Unidad de Homicidios del Departamento de la Policía del Condado de Prince George’s identificó y arrestó al sospechoso a quien buscaban en conexión al asesinato de un guardia de seguridad en Riverdale Park. El sospechoso fue identificado como Desmond Mbah, de 24 años de edad y vecino de la cuadra 11000 de Blanding Court en Bowie. A este se le imputa haber matado a tiros a Riyadh Al Janabi, de 23 años de edad y vecino de Rockville.
El 11 de febrero de 2021, a eso de las 8:10 pm, oficiales de Riverdale Park Police junto a PGPD acudieron a la cuadra 5400 de 54th Avenue tras recibir información sobre un “carjacking” y posterior tiroteo. Los oficiales hallaron a la víctima con múltiples heridas de bala en el área de estacionamiento de un complejo de apartamentos. A este le declararon muerto en un hospital poco después. La víctima fungía como guardia de seguridad del complejo cuando le dispararon. A este también le robaron el vehículo.
Tras emplear distintas técnicas investigativas, los detectives lograron identificar y arrestar al sospechoso el miércoles. La investigación preliminar reveló que en efecto el sospechoso le disparó a la víctima en medio de un carjacking. El vehículo robado fue recuperado.
Mbah enfrenta cargos por asesinato en primer y segundo grado, carjacking y varios delitos adicionales. Este se encuentra bajo la custodia del Departamento de Corrección. Un comisionado ordenó a que le retuvieran sin derecho a fianza. El individuo confesó haber sido el autor del asesinato.
El Departamento de la Policía del Condado de Prince George’s investiga todo homicidio que se registre en el área de Riverdale Park.
