Detectives Charge Suspect for 2020 Fatal Shooting in District Heights

The Homicide Unit identified and arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting in District Heights in May of 2020. The suspect is 25-year-old Javon Hines of no fixed address. He’s charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 18-year-old Deniro Monts of District Heights. 

On May 17, 2020, at approximately 4:00 pm, officers responded to the 6800 block of Atwood Street for a reported shooting. When officers arrived on the scene, they located the victim on a sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead a short time later at a hospital. 

Three additional people were also shot during this incident, to include Hines. He is charged with the attempted murder of the other two surviving victims. At this time, there are no charges pending against anyone else involved in this incident. The investigation continues.  

The preliminary investigation revealed Hines and Monts were known to each other. The fatal shooting stemmed from an on-going dispute. Hines is charged with first degree murder, two counts of attempted first degree murder and other related charges. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections and is being held on a no-bond status.

Detectives Acusan a Sospechoso por Mortal Tiroteo ocurrido en District Heights durante el 2020

La Unidad de Homicidios identificó y arrestó a un sospechoso en conexión a un mortal tiroteo que se registró en District Heights durante mayo del 2020. El sospechoso fue identificado como Javon Hines, de 25 años y sin domicilio fijo. A este se le acusa en conexión al asesinato a tiros de Deniro Monts, de 18 años y vecino de District Heights.

El 17 de mayo, a eso de las 4:05 de la tarde, nuestros oficiales acudieron a la cuadra 6800 de Atwood Street tras recibir información sobre un tiroteo. Al llegar a la escena, los oficiales hallaron a la víctima con múltiples heridas de bala en la acera. Poco después, a éste le declararon muerto en el hospital.

Unas tres personas resultaron baleadas durante el incidente, incluyendo a Hines. Este enfrenta cargos por tentativa de asesinato de las otras dos víctimas que sobrevivieron el ataque. Al momento no hay cargos pendientes contra otros que se vieron involucrados en el incidente. La investigación continúa abierta.

La investigación preliminar reveló que Hines y Monts se conocían entre sí. El mortal tiroteo surgió como producto de una disputa que estos llevaban. Hines enfrenta cargos por asesinato en primer grado y dos cargos por tentativa de asesinato en primer grado, entre otros. Este se encuentra bajo la custodia del Departamento de Corrección y permanece recluido sin derecho a fianza.
