PGPD Arrests Suspect in Connection With December Fatal Shooting in Capitol Heights

The Homicide Unit arrested and charged a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting from early December in Capitol Heights. The suspect is 37-year-old Michael Malachi Ford of Washington, DC. He is charged with fatally shooting 65-year-old Leon Steadham of Washington, DC. 

On December 6, 2022, at approximately 7:10 pm, officers responded to the 1200 block of Abel Avenue for the report of a shooting. Once on scene, they located Steadham in the roadway suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The preliminary investigation suggests the fatal shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute. The suspect and victim were known to each other.

Ford is charged with first degree murder and related charges. He’s currently in custody in DC awaiting extradition to Prince George’s County.
