The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit has assumed the investigation into a fatal shooting that occurred Wednesday in the city of Hyattsville. The victim is 39-year-old Melvin Mayorga Hernandez of Hyattsville. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case
On January 4, 2023, at approximately 5:50 pm, officers with the Hyattsville City Police Department responded to the 2600 block of Kirkwood Place to check on the welfare of a man lying in the parking lot. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene.
Detectives are working to determine a motive and identify the suspect(s).
The Prince George’s County Police Department investigates all homicides that occur in the city of Hyattsville.
