The Prince George's County Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in finding a missing teen. She is identified as 16-year-old Kalia Williams. She was last seen in the 8000 block of Cherry Lane in Laurel on February 27, 2023, at approximately 7:30 am.

Ms. Williams is a black female, 5 feet tall and 95 pounds. She was last seen wearing a light blue denim jacket with a gray hood, white t-shirt, tan pants, and black crocs.

Detectives Investigating Fatal Shooting in Temple Hills

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Sunday afternoon in Temple Hills. The victim is 31-year-old Omar Smith of Washington, DC. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. 

On February 26, 2023, at approximately 12:00 pm, officers responded to the 3700 block of Dunlap Street for a shooting. Officers located the victim outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene. 

 

Investigators are working to identify the suspect(s) and determine a motive.

Detectives Investigating Fatal Shooting in District Heights

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Thursday evening in District Heights. The victim is 17-year-old Lorenzo Marquette Freeman of Suitland. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. 

On February 23, 2023, at approximately 6:55 pm, officers responded to the 6700 block of Alpine Street for a shooting. Officers located the victim inside an apartment building suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead a few hours later.

 

Investigators are working to identify the suspect(s) and determine a motive.

PGPD Charges Man With Kidnapping a Child Prompting Amber Alert

The Prince George’s County Police Department arrested and charged a man with kidnapping a child prompting an Amber Alert on Thursday evening. The suspect is 18-year-old Ariel Florentino-Galeas of Hyattsville. The child was located unharmed approximately two hours later.

On February 23, 2023, at approximately 6:20 pm, the suspect jumped into the victim’s running SUV at a gas station in the 5300 block of Ritchie Marlboro Road in the unincorporated section of Upper Marlboro. The owner’s three-year-old grandson was in the SUV. The grandfather immediately called 911. The Prince George’s County Police Department searched extensively for the child and the stolen SUV. 

Approximately two hours later, a driver called 911 after being the victim of a hit-and-run in the area of 56th Avenue and Hamilton Street in Riverdale. The driver described the striking SUV, which matched the one stolen in Upper Marlboro. Officers quickly responded to that area and, with the assistance of our Aviation Unit, located the SUV abandoned in the 5300 block of Farragut Street in the Riverdale area. The child was alone in the vehicle. He was unharmed and quickly reunited with his family. Officers continued the exhaustive search for the suspect, who was located and arrested at approximately 8:35 pm.

Florentino-Galeas is charged with kidnapping, reckless endangerment, theft, unauthorized removal of a motor vehicle, and additional charges. He is in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

PGPD Investigates Fatal Shooting in Temple Hills

On February 23, 2023, at approximately 11:45 pm, officers responded to the 3100 block of Branch Avenue for a shooting. Officers located the victim in front of the location suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Detectives Release Photos of Fraud Suspect Who Attempted to Steal $130,000 From Fort Washington Bank

 

The Financial Crimes Unit is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the man who tried to steal approximately $130,000 from an account at a Fort Washington bank.

The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect went to the bank in the 10000 block of Indian Head Highway on November 22, 2022. Once he reached a teller, he posed as a customer who had an account at the bank. Using fraudulent identification, he was able to convince an employee to authorize the transfer of the large amount of money from the victim’s account to another account outside of the bank. Before the suspect could then withdraw the money from the second account, the bank determined the transaction was fraudulent and stopped it.

How to protect yourself from an account takeover:

•    Use multi-factor authentication with your bank

•    Make the most of your bank’s security features, such as spending limits, push notifications for account activity, and additional measures to prevent unauthorized access 

•    Ensure your bank has a good way to reach you

•    Use lengthy and unique passwords

•    Safeguard your financial records (such as bank records, social security cards, birth certificates)

•    Ensure that you practice safe internet browsing. Personal identifying information can be obtained through phishing, malware, and harmful downloads

If you fall victim to an account takeover, take these steps: 

o    Place a credit report fraud alert and/or credit freeze on your identity with all three credit bureaus.

o    Ensure that you change your account passwords. Update account information for the affected account and any others that share passwords with it.

o    Make sure that you report the incident of identity theft to law enforcement

o    File an online report with https://www.identitytheft.gov/  

Remember, your personal identifying information can be leaked because of a data breach. A breach will leave you with insufficient time to secure your information and will occur without your knowledge. So, consider taking preemptive steps to protect access to your personal information and set in place with safeguards with your financial institutions.

Suspended PGPD Officer Indicted for Misconduct in Office

 A grand jury today indicted a suspended Prince George’s County Corporal Anthony Brooke on a misdemeanor charge of misconduct in office.

The charge stems from a February 2021 stop on a vehicle in Capital Heights. Corporal Brooke is indicted for the allegation of assaulting the driver during the arrest. After reviewing body camera footage of all officers on the scene PGPD Internal Affairs referred the video to the Office of the State’s Attorney for Prince George’s County.  Corporal Brooke will remain suspended pending the outcome of the indictment.

The Internal Affairs Division’s investigation into Corporal Anthony Brooke’s actions remains ongoing.

Brooke was assigned to Westphalia Division VIII at the time of his suspension. He joined the agency in 2015. 

Two Juveniles in Carjacked Car Taken Into Custody; Loaded Ghost Gun Recovered

The Carjacking Interdiction Unit charged two juveniles who were in possession of a carjacked car. Both males are 17-years-old and are from District Heights. They are both charged as adults. A loaded ghost gun (unserialized) was recovered in the car.

On February 21, 2023, at approximately 4:30 pm, Washington Area Vehicle Enforcement team officers observed a carjacked Toyota Camry in the area of Wheeler Road and Southern Avenue in Oxon Hill. The car’s owner had been carjacked at gunpoint on February 20, 2023, at approximately 11:50 pm, at a gas station in the 1700 block of Sansbury Road in the unincorporated section of Upper Marlboro. Officers attempted to stop the carjacked car, but the driver refused to stop. A pursuit was authorized. The pursuit ended after the car became disabled in the area of 13^th Street and Good Hope Road in Southeast, Washington, DC. The juveniles were taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.

The Carjacking Interdiction Unit charged the juveniles as adults with unauthorized use of a vehicle and a handgun related charge. The juveniles are currently in custody in Washington, DC, pending extradition.

The Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Monday morning in the unincorporated section of Takoma Park. The victim is 38-year-old Maurice Chase Jr. of Takoma Park. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. 

On February 20, 2023, at approximately 12:40 am, officers responded to the 6700 block of New Hampshire Avenue for a shooting. Officers located the victim inside of an apartment building suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he died several hours later.

Bowie Fatal Collision Under Investigation

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that took place early Monday morning in Bowie. The deceased driver is 28-year-old Jessica Michelle Smith of Upper Marlboro.  

On February 20, 2023, at approximately 12:10 am, officers responded to the area of Lake Arbor Way and Fairlakes Place for a single-vehicle collision. The preliminary investigation revealed Smith was traveling eastbound on Lake Arbor Way, when for reasons now under investigation, she lost control of her car and ultimately struck a tree. Smith was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The victim is 40-year-old Tyrone McKinney of Riverdale. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. 

On February 19, 2023, at approximately 8:10 pm, officers responded to the 6800 block of Riverdale Road for a shooting. Officers located the victim outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

PGPD Charges Man for Rape, Kidnapping & Carjacking; Met Victims on Dating App

 

Rodney Richardson

Sexual Assault Unit detectives identified and charged a Brandywine man with rape, kidnapping, handgun offenses, armed robbery and multiple additional charges. He’s 26-year-old Rodney Richardson. The Carjacking Interdiction Unit also charged him in connection with an armed carjacking in Brandywine earlier this month. In both cases, he met the victims on dating apps.

 

On February 12, 2023, detectives were notified of a sexual assault that occurred on February 10, 2023, in Brandywine. The preliminary investigation revealed Richardson met the victim, an adult male, on a popular dating app. The two agreed to meet in Brandywine. During that encounter, Richardson raped the victim at gunpoint. In addition, he drove the victim to the victim’s bank and forced him to take out money.

 

Through various investigative techniques, Richardson was identified and charged in connection with the rape.

 

In a separate case, the Carjacking Interdiction Unit identified and charged Richardson with an armed carjacking that occurred on February 2, 2023, in Brandywine. The preliminary investigation revealed Richardson met the victim, an adult male, on a dating app. When they met in person, Richardson carjacked the victim at gunpoint. After conducting a thorough investigation, detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest. He was located and taken into custody on February 13, 2023. He remains in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

PGPD Arrests Man in Stolen Hyundai; Loaded Gun Recovered

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Washington Area Vehicle Enforcement team arrested a man who was in possession of a stolen Hyundai in Suitland. The suspect is 27-year-old Brandon Handy of Suitland.

On February 14, 2023, at approximately 11:30 am, WAVE members observed a Hyundai that had been reported stolen in the county on February 4, 2023. Officers stopped the car in the area of Silver Hill Road and Suitland Road. Handy, the only occupant, was taken into custody. A loaded gun was recovered in his waistband.

Handy faces multiple charges to include theft, unlawful taking of a vehicle and several handgun related charges. He was transported to the Department of Corrections.

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit is actively investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Monday evening in Capitol Heights. The victim is 30-year-old Brandon Avery Presson of Largo. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case. 

On February 13, 2023, at approximately 4:50 pm, officers responded to the1800 block of Ritchie Station Court for a shooting. Officers located the victim in a parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Temple Hills Fatal Collision Under Investigation

The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that took place Saturday night in Temple Hills. The deceased driver is 27-year-old Stephan Wolley of Waldorf.  

On February 11, 2023, at approximately 10:15 pm, officers responded to the area of Temple Hill Road and Lambert Drive for a collision involving two vehicles. The preliminary investigation revealed Wolley was traveling northbound on Temple Hill Road, when for reasons now under investigation, he crossed the centerline and struck an SUV. Wolley was pronounced dead on the scene. The SUV’s driver was taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
