Homicide Unit detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Wednesday afternoon in the Chillum area. The victim is 19-year-old Carlos Hernandez-Ortiz of Chillum. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.
On April 10, 2024, at approximately 12:05 pm, officers responded
to the 500 block of Chillum Road for the report of a shooting. Officers located
Hernandez-Ortiz outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to the
hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Detectives are working to determine a motive and
identify a suspect(s).
