detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday afternoon
in Silver Spring. The victim is 35-year-old Carlos Alberto Ortiz of Silver
Spring. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to
an arrest and indictment in this case.
On September 14, 2024, at approximately 4:00 pm, officers responded to the 9200 block of New Hampshire Avenue for a shooting. Once on scene, they located Ortiz in a wooded area suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Detectives are working to determine a motive and identify a suspect(s).
