Police/Business Community Team Up to Fight Crime



The Prince George’s County Police Department’s District II Community Oriented Policing Squad (COPS) hosted its first Regional Organized Crime Committee (ROCC) meeting on Tuesday, July 31st at Fairwood’s Police Community Resource Center in Bowie, Maryland. The following business community partners were represented:

• Home Depot
• Safeway Stores
• Shoppers Food Warehouse
• Target Stores
• Other commercial establishments

The group established ROCC to strengthen communication between the law enforcement and business communities. The ROCC will focus on networking and sharing information between retailers and law enforcement to mitigate organized retail crime, commercial robberies and thefts.

The City of Bowie Police Department and the City of Greenbelt Police Department attended and shared additional crime prevention information with the committee.

The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Organized Retail Crime Unit presented the committee with case studies and information on identification and prevention methods. Business community members who are interested in attending next month’s meeting should contact Corporal Jonathan Foote at
