Suspect Identified in Capitol Heights Murder

Michael Jerome Stewart, 33
4800 block of Amberfield Way
Upper Marlboro, Md.

The Prince George’s County Police Department has identified the suspect in the shooting death of Brittany Sade McKinley as Michael Jerome Stewart, 33 years-old of the 4800 block of Amberfield Way in Upper Marlboro.

On September 16, 2012, at approximately 6:14 a.m., police officers responded to the 9000 block of Central Avenue for the report of a shooting.  Upon arrival, officers found McKinley, 25, of the 4600 block of Heath Street, fatally shot inside of a vehicle.  She was pronounced dead on the scene.  A 23 year-old female was shot in the hand and transported to a local hospital for a non-life threatening injury.  It was learned the victims were shot on Heath Street and drove to a safe area on Central Avenue where they notified police.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Stewart, who is the ex-boyfriend of McKinley, got into a confrontation with her at her workplace (Irving’s Night Club).  After being kicked out by security, at some point Stewart went to the victim’s home in the 4600 block of Heath Street and waited for her to return home.  As the victims arrived at McKinley’s home, Stewart opened the car door and shot both women.
