PGPD Investigates Fatal Car Crash in Cottage City

The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating a fatal car crash in Cottage City, Maryland.
On May 9, 2013, shortly before 8:00 pm, patrol officers responded to Bladensburg Road and 37th Place for the report of a car crash.  Upon arrival, patrol officers found an unresponsive 4-year-old child, who was pronounced dead on the scene.  He is identified as Charles Sullivan, of the 9300 block of Piney Branch Road in Silver Spring.
The preliminary investigation reveals a Ford Explorer was travelling southbound on Bladensburg Road when it struck the side of a SUV, which was stopped at the traffic signal.  After the initial collision, the Ford then struck a second vehicle, which was stopped at the traffic signal in the Northbound lanes of Bladensburg Road.  The Ford then left the roadway, struck two utility poles, and came to rest in a nearby parking lot.  The driver of the Ford and an additional child passenger were both transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.  The occupants of the other vehicles were not injured.
The investigation into this fatal accident is ongoing.  Preliminarily, speed appears to be a factor.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit at (301) 731-4422.
