PGPD Investigates Fatal Collision in Bowie

The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating a fatal collision in Bowie. The deceased is identified as 9-year-old Jahbari Jawon Howe, of the 12700 block of Libertys Delight Drive in Bowie.

On July 14, 2013 at approximately 7:30 pm, patrol officers responded to the 12800 block of Woodmore North Boulevard for the report of a collision involving a child on a bicycle.  Upon arrival, patrol officers found Howe suffering from critical injuries.  He was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on July 16, 2013.

The preliminary investigation reveals the driver of an Infinity QX 56 was traveling on Woodmore North Boulevard.   Howe was riding a bicycle in the opposite direction near the sidewalk.  For reasons which remain unclear, the child abruptly turned into the travel portion of the street where he was struck by the Infinity.  The driver of the Infinity remained on the scene.

Preliminarily, neither alcohol nor speed appear to be factors in this ongoing investigation.  At this point in the ongoing investigation, no charges have been filed.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit at (301) 731-4422.
