The closure of the restaurant marks the second establishment closed under the recently passed CB-18-2011, also known as the Dance Hall Bill, which prohibits businesses to operate as dance halls without a license and who also pose a threat to public safety.
On October 7, 2011, at approximately 3:27 a.m., patrol officers responded to the 3400 block of Dallas Drive, for a report of a shooting. Once on scene, officers located a male victim lying on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he remains in stable condition. Three other victims were located suffering from stab wounds. All were treated for their injuries that were considered to be non-life threatening.
The preliminary investigation revealed the incident stemmed from an altercation that began inside of The Family Restaurant. Two suspects have been arrested and charged with the assaults.
“We’re using our authority under the CB-18-2011 to crack down on nightclubs where violence is prevalent. Closures of such establishments are done to enhance the safety and quality of life of citizens in Prince George’s County,” said Chief Mark Magaw.
“I would like to commend the Prince George’s County Police Department in taking action against establishments that promote violent crime. Our goal under this bill is to keep the citizens of Prince George’s County safe. Businesses that are not compliant with this legislation must be shut down”, said Karen R. Toles, Council Member for District 7.
