PGPD Inspector General Featured at National Security Symposium

Prince George's County Police Department's Inspector General Carlos Acosta was a featured participant at the American University-Washington College of Law National Security Law Brief's Fourth Annual Symposium "In Surveillance We Trust: Government Surveillance Programs and the Challenges to Maintaining Privacy." The event took place March 28, 2013.

This discussion provided an overview of current known surveillance programs, the types of data collected and their uses. Mr. Acosta spoke about the intersection of national security technology and privacy concerns of license plate reader technology and its use by law enforcement. The panel also discussed drone technology, law enforcement use of cell phone tracking technology, cyber security and closed circuit camera video surveillance. Through this work, the Office of the Inspector General remains aware of national trends and concerns for law enforcement in general, and for the Prince George’s County Police Department and its community in particular.
