PGPD Honors Patrol Officers of the Month

As many of us are making final preparations for the holidays, we’d like to take a moment and recognize the good work of several of our patrol officers.  As so many of our patrol officers do each and every day, these officers came to work and made a difference in our community.

Here are our Patrol Officers of the Month for November 2013.

District I Police Officer of the Month

Police Officer Vincent Simmel

On November 1, 2013, while responding to a shooting call, Police Officer Vincent Simmel spotted a car that matched the suspect car.  He pulled it over, but quickly determined it was not connected to the shooting.  However, Police Officer Simmel did smell suspected marijuana coming from the car.  During a search, Police Officer Simmel found two handguns hidden in the car.  He arrested the three passengers.

District II Police Officer of the Month

Police Officer Richard Marshall

On November 13, 2013, just one week after completing his field training program, a citizen approached Police Officer Richard Marshall.  The citizen was concerned about a suspicious car in the parking lot of an apartment complex.  As Police Officer Marshall approached the car, he immediately smelled suspected marijuana coming from inside. A search of the car turned up a loaded handgun and illegal drugs.  The three passengers were taken into custody.

District III Police Officer of the Month

Police Officer Taylor Krauss

On November 14, 2013, while on routine patrol on Marlboro Pike, Police Officer Taylor Krauss saw two men loitering and drinking in a posted “no loitering” area.  Police Officer Krauss approached the men to conduct a field interview.  During the interview, one of the suspects jumped up and said, “You’re gonna have to catch me!”  Both suspects then began to run away.  Police Officer Krauss saw one of the men slip and fall. During that fall, a gun fell out of his waistband.  The patrol officer continued to chase the suspects, catching one of them.  That suspect had a loaded gun in his jacket pocket.  Additional patrol officers responded to the scene and found the first gun which had earlier fallen out of the fleeing suspect’s waistband. It too was loaded.  The arrested suspect had open warrants in Prince George’s County and Montgomery County.

District IV Police Officers of the Month

Corporal Timothy Glover

Police Officer John Cooper

On November 30, 2013, Corporal Timothy Glover and Police Officer John Cooper responded to Colebrooke Drive for the report of an armed robbery.  Two suspects had just robbed two victims at gunpoint.  The patrol officers quickly set up a perimeter in the neighborhood. A K9 team was called out and started a track  The K9 team spotted one of the suspects running down the street.  Corporal Glover and Police Officer Cooper also spotted the man running through the back yards of several home and immediately began to chase him. They were able to catch and arrest him.  

District V Police Officer of the Month

Police Officer Anthony Oliver

On November 11, 2013, Police Officer Anthony Oliver responded to Branch Avenue for a commercial alarm.  When he arrived on scene, he saw three men in the rear of the store near the exit door. He ordered the men to stop but one started to run away.  Police Officer Oliver detained the two remaining suspects and put out lookout information for the third suspect. While interviewing the two suspects back at the station, the third suspect who had initially fled turned himself in.  Burglary tools were recovered from one of the suspects.  All three were charged with burglary.

District VI Police Officer of the Month

Corporal George Schwaeble

On November 19, 2013, Corporal George Schwaeble responded to a breaking and entering in progress on Locust Grove Drive.  A witness reported seeing three suspects knock on the front door, jump the rear fence and then break a window to try to get in. The homeowner, who had been sleeping inside, was able to scare off the suspects. They ran away. A lookout was broadcast for the three suspects.  Within a few minutes, the corporal spotted the three suspects nearby and stopped them. The witness was able to positively identify the suspects as they men who tried to break into the home.
