PGPD Remembers Fallen Officer Corporal Thomas "Tommy" Jensen

Let us pause to remember our fallen hero Corporal Thomas Paul Jensen, lost this day in 2010.

Corporal Jensen, affectionately known as "Tommy", was born May 26, 1982, in Cheverly. He was raised in Hyattsville and graduated from DeMatha Catholic High School in 2000.  Corporal Jensen joined the Prince George's County Police Department in September 2004 as a member of Session #103, following in the footsteps of his father, retired Sergeant Thomas Jensen.

After graduating from the academy, Corporal Jensen was assigned to our District I police station in Hyattsville.  While serving there, Corporal Jensen received the department's Award of Merit for his key role in the June 2008 arrests of two armed robbery suspects.  He also established himself as a leader among his colleagues and a mentor to young squad members.

On the morning of February 27, 2010, Corporal Jensen volunteered to respond to a breaking and entering in progress on Kenilworth Avenue where the suspect was under the influence of PCP.   While heading to the scene, he crossed the overpass to University Boulevard in College Park and hit a patch of ice, causing him to lose control and strike a utility pole.  He was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries. Corporal Jensen courageously battled his injuries for 10 days before passing away on March 9, 2010.

Corporal Jensen served the Prince George's County Police Department for five years and was the 26th member of the agency to make the ultimate sacrifice.  He was the 50th law enforcement officer to give his life in service to this profession within Prince George's County.

At the time of his death, Corporal Tommy Jensen was 27 years old and survived by his wife of four months and his parents.
