A
Prince George’s County Police Department patrol officer’s sharp memory and
quick actions has led to a 53-year-old suspect being arrested in an attempted
kidnapping of a child. On March 10, 2014, at about 11:10 am, District V
patrol officers were called to James Ryder Randall Elementary School in Clinton
for the report of an assault. When they arrived, they learned through
school officials that a third grader had been assaulted on her way to
school. The preliminary investigation reveals the child was walking alone
to school when she saw the suspect walking toward her. The child became
alarmed and ran into a neighbor’s yard. That’s when the suspect began
chasing the victim. As the chase neared school property, the suspect came
up behind the girl and grabbed her book bag. She quickly pulled away from
the man who then swung at the girl but missed. She managed to escape to
her school unharmed. A school administrator called police.
Additional
patrol officers immediately responded to the school, got a brief description of
the suspect and saturated the area. Police Officer Ariel Acosta recalled
a field observation several months earlier in the same general area of a person
matching that brief description. Police Officer Acosta began searching
for the suspect and found him at his home. The suspect was soon
positively identified as the person wanted for the attempted abduction.

The
suspect is identified as 53-year-old Anthony Donald Logan of the 5200 block of
Zephyr Avenue in Clinton. He’s charged with attempted kidnapping, second degree assault
and trespassing.
This
is not the first time Police Officer Acosta came to a child’s rescue.
Officer Acosta was recently honored for trying to save the life of a toddler in
