The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal collision that occurred Monday afternoon. The deceased driver is identified as 28-year-old Jose Hernandez Chavez of Hyattsville.
On May 23, 2022, at approximately 3:45 pm, officers responded to the 8400 block of Central Avenue in Seat Pleasant for a collision involving three vehicles.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of a pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Central Avenue. Hernandez and the driver of a third vehicle were waiting at a traffic light, when the driver of the pickup struck the rear of Hernandez Chavez’s vehicle, causing his car to collide with a third vehicle. Hernandez Chavez was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The other involved drivers were not injured.
