PGPD Investigating Bladensburg Police Dept. Police-Involved Shooting

The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating a police-involved shooting in Bladensburg.

On February 8, 2013, around 11:40 pm, police officers with the Bladensburg Police Department were called to the 4200 block of 53rd Avenue for a disturbance involving a woman brandishing a knife. Once on scene, police officers knocked on 43 year-old Tonya Michelle Buggs' apartment door in an effort to make contact with her.  The preliminary investigation reveals Buggs opened the door holding a knife above her head. The police officers ordered her to drop the weapon. Three police officers discharged their firearms at Buggs after she lunged at the police officers with her knife. She was taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The involved police officers are currently on routine administrative leave.
