Updated March 16, 2013:  The Prince George’s County Police Department arrested 19-year-old Demetrice Littles, of the 1800 block of M Street in Northeast Washington in connection with this incident.  Littles was identified and arrested on March 16, 2013, after he sought treatment for a gunshot wound at an area hospital.  Littles is facing first degree assault, kidnapping, abduction, auto theft and related charges.  He is currently in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a $30,000 bond.

The Prince George’s County Police Department is investigating a shooting in Clinton involving a homeowner who confronted a man trying to steal his car.  The homeowner is a Metropolitan Police Department officer. He was off duty at the time.

On March 15, 2013, at approximately 8:20 am, patrol officers were called to the 5000 block of Vienna Drive for the report of an auto theft in progress.  The preliminary investigation reveals the police officer sees the suspect approach the family car.  The police officer’s nine-year-old daughter was inside the car at the time.  The police officer orders the suspect out of the car.  The child safely jumped out of the sedan before the suspect started driving across the front lawn toward the off-duty police officer. Fearing for his life, the police officer discharged his duty weapon several times. The suspect crashed the car a short distance away, got out and ran away.  He was seen fleeing the area in a champagne-colored Toyota Camry with temporary tags.  It’s not clear whether the suspect was injured.  The officer and his family were not hurt.

The suspect is described as a black male with a thin build in his late teens.  He wore a black skull cap and an olive green jacket.  The investigation is ongoing.
