PGPD Investigates Sheriff's Deputy-Involved Shooting

The Prince George’s County Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division is investigating a fatal Prince George's County Sheriff's deputy-involved shooting in Landover. The deceased suspect is identified as 34-year-old Lionel Lorenzo Young of the 1800 block of Belle Haven Drive in Landover.

On May 10, 2015, at about 9:00 pm, deputies from the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Office were called to the 6200 block of Central Avenue for a domestic dispute involving a knife. Upon arrival, deputies noticed Young in a vehicle, attempted to conduct a traffic stop but Young fled at a high rate of speed. A pursuit ensued and ended in the 900 block of Nalley Road.

The preliminary investigation suggests Young intentionally struck two PGSO vehicles, at which time the two deputies fired at the vehicle, fatally striking Young. Two knives were recovered from the scene.

PGPD investigators would like to hear from any citizen who may have seen anything that occurred in the area of Addison Plaza Sunday night. Callers may remain anonymous by calling our Crime Solvers number at 1-866-411-TIPS.

The Prince George’s County Sheriff's Office is conducting an administrative investigation into the shooting. The PGSO will provide information about the identity of the involved deputies and their duty status.
